Q&A
video from yesterday from u/knowitokay
and the press release:
(Norcross, Ga., Mar. 25, 2024) – A former employee of a local business is under arrest for stealing a large construction vehicle and traveling on several roads in Norcross. On Saturday, March 23, at approximately 11:00 a.m., officers from the West Precinct were dispatched to a dispute call at a waste management business on Corley Road in unincorporated Norcross. The initial responding officer responded and learned that a former employee had stolen a large, yellow front loader and was driving it around on the property. The vehicle weighs approximately 75,000 pounds and was equipped with a large bucket on the front.
The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the suspect continued driving and eventually exited the property onto Corley Road. The suspect traveled onto Jimmy Carter Boulevard toward Buford Highway. Once under the bridge near South Peachtree Street, he abruptly made a U-turn. He continued west while officers were trying to get him to stop. His movements were unpredictable as he navigated heavy traffic. The suspect made another U-turn. Officers from the Norcross Police Department and the Georgia State Patrol also assisted with the pursuit while keeping other motorists safe. As other officers pursued the suspect, the initial responding officer returned to the business to get another large construction vehicle that could disable the fleeing suspect. A trash truck and another front loader were escorted by officers to the fleeing suspect several miles away.
The suspect in the stolen front loader turned left onto Brook Hollow Parkway and then right onto Center Way. He turned left onto Oakbrook Parkway, right on Pirkle Road, and then left on Singleton Road. Officers were using their patrol cars to block traffic. After turning onto Singleton Road, the pursuing front loader made contact with the suspect and flipped the vehicle onto its side. The pursuit came to an end on Singleton Road and Robin Hill Drive. This is approximately five miles from the original incident location.
The suspect, Eddie Sanchez (age 38, Delaware), was removed from the cab of the front loader and placed under arrest. He was evaluated at a local hospital prior to being booked into the Gwinnett County Jail. He was charged with Criminal Trespass, Theft by Taking, Fleeing or Attempting to Elude, Reckless Driving, Criminal Damage to Property 2nd Degree, and Obstruction of a Law Enforcement Officer.
While investigating the incident, the reporting officer learned that Sanchez was terminated from the business in September 2023. He visited the business several days prior and did something similar but never left the property.
During this entire incident, no motorists were injured, nor were any vehicles or patrol cars damaged.
That sounds like the actions of a meth enthusiast.
Maybe he was pissed about getting fired and this was a "fuck you" run?
Could be, but dude got fired 6 months ago. That’s a long time to stay pissed.
"fuck you?!?!... NO... FUCK ME!"
immediate jail.
No no no. Everything is meth. It’s witty, succinct and shows deep knowledge and understanding.
Hey now. Here in missouri, meth hobbyists are the backbone of our blue collar industries. Show some respec
ah, a redditor of culture, I see!
Your lack of reading comprehension is typical of a meth head.
I dunno, the upside down one looks like it might be damaged.
You just breezed by this without comment?
"Nah, just let him go. He ain't hurtin' nobody."
That initial responding officer is a gigachad! Commandeers heavy equipment for a pit maneuver? Serious other guys vibes.
ofc didn’t commandeer, but he ordered the other operator to go GTA on the stolen loader
Yeah lost in all of this is that hero who snapped to and ran right for his bigger loader when the cop gave orders, then proceeds to execute a perfect pit maneuver with a wheel loader. It could have been a disaster but he stepped up and saved the day.
He’s a peacock. You gotta let him fly.
75,000 pounds??
Yes. They are heavy.
Serious question: on the charge of Theft by taking, what other options for theft are there? Or is this to differentiate between physical theft and fraud or embezzlement?
Apparently, "theft by taking" is unique to Georgia (they just call it larceny, theft, or common theft most other places).
Found on a Georgia criminal law firm's website, the other types are apparently:
theft by deception (fraud)
theft by conversion (embezzlement-ish)
theft of services
theft of lost or mislaid property
theft by receiving (... stolen goods)
theft by bringing (... stolen goods from another state)
theft by shoplifting
theft by extortion (they call this robbery most places)
I know other states have some of these. I really dig the way they make it all consistent, honestly.
Do it right or don't do it at all...
The bulldozer was a modified Komatsu D355A,[3] which he referred to as the "MK Tank" (or "Marv's Komatsu Tank"[8]) in audio recordings, fitted with makeshift armor plating covering the cabin, engine, and parts of the tracks. Three external explosions and more than 200 rounds of ammunition fired at the bulldozer had no effect on it.[16]
For visibility, the bulldozer was fitted with several video cameras linked to two monitors mounted on the vehicle's dashboard. The cameras were protected on the outside by 3-inch (76 mm) shields of clear bulletproof lexan.[16] Compressed-air nozzles were fitted to blow dust away from the video cameras.[16]
Onboard fans and an air conditioner were used to keep Heemeyer cool while driving. He had made three gun-ports, fitted for a .50 caliber rifle, a .308 caliber semi-automatic rifle, and a .22 caliber rifle, all fitted with a ½-inch (1.3 cm) steel plate.
At the time of the demolition it also contained three handguns and enough food and water to last a week.

We need to make a dozer with self-righting hydraulic skiis that can be deployed on each corner in case they fall into a basement.
Is that the Buford T Justice Highway?
the slide whistle on the jump ruined the moment.
I heard about this on the news but this was the first video and details about it I've seen and read. This all happened right down the street from me.
Dude of course it was Norcross. The weirdest shit goes down there.
"Frank! Go get the orange front loader right now! I've got a special job for you!"
Sounds like Killdozer's Made for TV sequel.
Craziest episode of The Californians I've ever seen.
If these picture show the aftermath, is the video showing them in action the "math"?
So after watching the video I am confused. If they removed the guy while it was just tilted and proper up, why it's is fully flipped in the pictures?
incredible. Insurance, consequences, all that aside I couldn't help but grin. Not all front loader operators wear capes.
If they removed the guy when it was only tilted and lifted why is it fully flipped in the pictures?
Those are front end loaders.
Technically they are wheel loaders
Source: I work at Caterpillar. I’m just here to see if it was our machine 🤷🏻♂️
Nope, just another senseless Volvo on Volvo crime
Hahaha Swedish engineering has been known to induce that kind of behavior
Is this Caterpiller's way of announcing BattleWheelLoaderBots? Because the name could use some work..
It's Chinese now since they bought it
When you have a seatbelt you can do ANYTHING!
any way you can stop the LHD operators trying to flatten me all day? i swear there are no windows or radios in those things.
Send them to Tuscan for training!
Some of these machines it really is amazing people aren’t killed. I’ve been in one of the the 798s you can’t see anything on your right side
they should put manual kill switches on the back. after all the guys get done pranking each other, could have a lot of wholesome advantages
Shoot, we don’t even need manual ones any more. So many of these machines are getting more and more connected with technology that it would be easier to just turn it off wirelessly.
Obviously I doubt this one had it, but it those types of features are more common. My favorite thing are our machines that are controlled remotely - it’s basically a construction simulator that is actually controlling a piece of equipment.

Volvo loaders actually do have battery disconnects that are accessible on the outside of the machine that would shut down the unit.
Source: My company has three Volvo wheel loaders, and I maintain them.
Once it's running, the alternator will supply enough power to keep it running. Disconnecting the battery wouldn't do shit.
Then why TF didn't they just do that?
Can you get me a deal on a 303.5 to play around in my back yard? :) (I kinda want to build a mountain bike trail or something.)
Ha - show up to the BCP headquarters outside of Raleigh and tell them Nitroduck16 sent you
bragging rights? :-)
I really wish it had been a CAT that had flipped the Volvo. That would have been amazing
photoshop the winner and send it
Former caterpillar worker here. Same.
Question.... With a full tank of fuel what is something like that's range?
Thanks
We will also accept “payloaders”
Gotta say CATs loader are probably the weakest link of their heavy equipment fleet.
That’s actually great information. Would you mind sharing more? What makes them the weakest, who’s doing it best, why we could improve. Any insight you have I would love to have.
I don’t get enough opportunity to actually get the pulse of customers / users.
Maybe not Caterpillar but the rest of the world uses the same name "Front end loader". Never once have I heard it called anything else!
The flipped one is a Volvo L180H.
You can find them under wheel loaders on Volvo’s website
Do you think the Cat I’d more likely to stay upright in this kind of situation? This could be a new marketing angle.
Nah. Volvo honestly makes great stuff as well and it seems that the other wheel loader did what it was supposed to.
Wait, the other one is actually supposed to be used to flip them?
That only works if you drop them from a height.
So... have you told the guys who think these are the big ones about the really big ones? I'm not a CAT guy but I could look out the window at my last job and see the "Track Type Tractor Final Assembly" building and have done some contract work at a half dozen sites.
I concur.
Do you concur doctor?
Why didn't I concur?
I always call em "Pay Loaders" but front end loaders, wheel loaders, or bucket loader works fine for me too.
Wheel loader.
They’re synonymous
I can't believe OP screwed this up with how many times "front end loader" was said in the previous post.
Because nobody except people who work in construction care what the technical term of a construction vehicle is lol
But most of the jokes were funny in part because it was a technical term that nobody knew
And one is articulating, dude never stood a chance. Those things just feel tippy.
They're both articulating
Right didn’t catch that
You're more articulate I see.
Word!
We have an articulating sort of bobcat at my work, it's called a tent ox, used to put up those big tents they have at events. We only bust it out for the massive 120x60' tents, the kind where the tops are so heavy it takes a dolly just to move them rolled up. Shit feels so unstable to drive
Yeah I don’t really care for them. I’ve mostly used older equipment but that articulating one I used the most was brand new. All the bells and whistles were nice but it didn’t feel like I was driving it. Like all things I’d get used to it with more time in the seat but I’m stubborn.
We just got a new skid steer and it’s real fancy, love that thing. Having a backup camera is awesome, it even has ac/heater and a decent set of speakers with Bluetooth.
true. just rolls off the tongue, though
I respect that.
the original way waaay better
Battle of the Articulated Front End Loaders... Part X.!!!
AFEL Kerfuffle
There is going to be a sequel. X Part II. But with more cameras.
