Everton news: Wyness reveals 'top clubs' tracking '£70m' Onana

Everton transfer news: Keith Wyness suggests ‘£60m’ Amadou Onana deal on the cards

Former Everton chief Keith Wyness has revealed “top clubs are following” midfielder Amadou Onana.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested his old side can rake in between £60-70million for the 22-year-old.

Football Insider revealed on 29 March that it is ‘inevitable’ Onana will be sold this summer if Everton are relegated.

It is believed the likes of Newcastle United, Arsenal and West Ham are all keen on the Belgium international.

Onana is under contract until June 2027 at Everton, who signed him for a reported fee of just over £33million two years ago.

‘I know’ top clubs are chasing £70m-rated Everton star Onana, says Wyness

Wyness claimed Everton should look to “prospects” to replace the midfielder, rather than established big-money stars.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “Onana doesn’t quite have the same value for Everton as someone like Branthwaite.

“That’s because he was signed for a pretty hefty fee recently.

“There will be some amortisation left on that deal.

“However, we’re still looking at around £60-70million for him.

“He’s very talented, he’s playing very well for Belgium.

“I know that some of the top clubs are following him very closely indeed.

“In terms of replacements, I think more prospects have got to be brought in. The books have to be in order before the big money can be spent.

“Kevin Thelwell, the director of football, has got a big job on his hands.”
