this is the transcribed text from the photo album near the endgame. the discord server has been looking through the game files and found the standalone text of the photo albums. this is one of them that reveals the entire truth of what happens with Mari. discord server transcribed it and i put it together in a photo album way so that it is more readable.
Any idea where these captions are supposed to be used? Game doesn’t normally let you examine this cursed photo book up close like the other ones.
here's what they should've looked like in-game
im not 100% sure where these were used since i cant remember seeing the entire thing in-game, but i think these texts were meant to be seen in the final photo album in black space since they're all named black_part[x] in the game files
though i think the first two parts are actually used in the dreamworld/omori prologue when you look at the photo album for the first time (but obviously it doesn't read this to you, it's probably used as placeholder or for what's to come as the captions are too blurry/small to read in-game)EDIT: sorry my bad this isnt true!! i thought this was the case since there were 2 pictures named for the dreamworld text containing the same pictures as the first 2 parts of the blackspace text. the prologue contains scribbles in the photo album
The photos took me by surprise when I realized what was going on in it
surprised me even further when i realized you are looking trough the eyes of Basil
"basil's memories"
The first time I saw it I honestly thought it was a bit bullshit, because Sunny can't physically se through the eyes of Basil, but reading them now I realized that Basil always took the photos
I know I'm 2 years late, but take a look at the title of the album.
Photo of Something gave me nightmares and now I need to know this. Why are her eyes open? How did this happen? How did her eyes get opened? I NEED TO KNOW!
Bit late, but I don't think she was still alive.
I think it was just the manifestation of their guilt as they looked back on her.
A hallucination, if you will. Stress and all that.
I forgot I made this post. Yeah, this makes the most sense. Still freaks me out. Now that I remember this, time to have nightmare about… something.
This happens with corpses sometimes. The muscle memory in you eyes keep them open. That is why they used to put coins on the eyes, and now they just put something under the eyelid.
But in the description of Photo of Desperation, Sunny thought Mari looked asleep, meaning her eyes were probably closed. Could they reopen?
I am mega super late but the most realistic answer would be the hanging itself, it likely cause her eye to bulge out from the tightness of the jumprope, given the fact she had just recently died.
Yup, that makes it worse. Still nightmare fuel.
No it's just Rigor Mortis

That’s morbid as fuck. But that makes sense.
Rigor Mortis
It’s been 2 years.
I know. I know.
Anyways, yeah that’ll do it.
That's amazing, thank you for posting it here!
:(
Omori has best lore
So Sunny says that Mari looks like she’s “sleeping” after her fall but at the end her eyes are wide open starting at them. I really don’t like what this implies…
Dead people dont always have their eyes closed..
She was alive. Someone on reddit already explained the difference between doing something with a living person and a dead person. There are indications of bleeding in the eye, which is a phenomenon of being asphyxiated that only happens when someone is alive. Another indication is that the game was explicit in saying that she had her eyes closed and was soon open. Another detail is Basil's reaction, if it was just Sunny, it could be plausible that it was just an impression. This is why we see Basil apologizing all the time, saying he makes things worse when he goes to help, and the times Omori murders him, expressing wishing that Basil was forgotten or that he didn't exist.
Because, after all... The idea of hanging Mari was his.
she was dead. omocat confirmed she died after falling into the broken violin. basil apologizes all the time because sunny killed mari and he hanged her corpse and fears someone will find it out.
For years I thought Basil was coerced into helping Sunny, I never imagined it was Basil’s idea…
Thanks g
Any reason they were crossed out/ unreadable in game...seems kinda dumb. Thanks for this
It would have hurt the whole "show, don't tell" philosophy of the sequence. I remember as soon as I saw Mari at the top of the stairs, everything clicked and it was horrifying. A written explanation would have ruined that.
Well, I'll say that in my case, I didn't interpret it correctly at first. I couldn't really see what was going on in some of the photos, and I didn't put the pieces of the puzzle together correctly on my own.
I had thought that Mari's fall wasn't lethal, but that getting hurt by Omori somehow pushed Mari past some sort of breaking point and she finished herself off. (Which, as I see it, would have still left Sunny fully blaming himself for her death.)
I personally had extreme difficulty piecing it together. Like for example, I didn't know why the violin was there at all, why there was Mari's hair in the violin, or why she was dragged up and then back down the stairs. Or why she was hanged. Or what Basil was doing. And I didn't know whether Sunny pushed her accidentally or on purpose. Or whether he pushed her at all, after all, she could have just fallen.
Like, my initial assumption was that Sunny hit Mari with the violin so hard that she fell down the stairs. Literally, that's the conclusion I came to.
sunny fucking whacking mari with the violin so hard she falls down the stairs and fucking dies is a really funny mental image to me for some reason LMAO
but I still think it would be great read it after, in hospital maybe, before the "true ending".
Probably because Basil wasn't very proud of what he had done
But this is all in his head right? So shouldn’t it be legible. Ps; I mean like by the creators or something
yes, the album is called "Basil's memories" i guess he's trying to forget it or something
gave me chills
i cant read this without crying every time whatt 💀😭😭
