Police investigated a bomb threat Monday at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa prompted by a suspicious call to the hotel, but ultimately discovered the threat to be unfounded.

Carlsbad police officials said they would continue to investigate the phone call and origin of the threat, but tweeted at 7:40 p.m. that “all is clear at the resort. The threat was found to be false.”

The investigation began around 2:20 p.m. at the hotel and resort on Costa Del Mar Road east of El Camino Real, according to Carlsbad police Lt. Jason Jackowski.

“Using an abundance of caution and the prescribed protocol, we are investigating a bomb threat based on a suspicious phone call,” Police Department officials tweeted about 4:15 p.m.

“Please stay clear as we work through the safety procedures,” the tweet said.

A Carlsbad Fire Department official confirmed that firefighters were assisting at the scene, but said the department does not have a bomb unit.

Carlsbad police tweeted that “due to the size of the resort,” bomb-sniffing dogs from the California Highway Patrol and the Marine Corps were helping investigate, as were the Carlsbad firefighters, county sheriff’s deputies and the resort’s security and management.

The Omni La Costa is a luxury resort that has played host to professional tennis tournaments and golf tournaments dating back decades, a film festival and more. It’s also set to host the NCAA Division I men’s and women’s golf championships for three years starting in 2024.
