Electrifying Chicago sandwich shop drama The Bear turns up the heat in every episode

Electrifying Chicago sandwich shop drama The Bear turns up the heat in every episode
There’s a cliche about what it takes to be a rockstar chef. It combines Anthony Bourdain’s aesthetic – arms tattooed, a puckish sparkle in his eye – with Gordon Ramsay’s propensity for swearing at people. Restaurant kitchens are as scorching and vicious as the machismo it takes to thrive in one. To be the best, you’ve got to bleed, bruise, sweat and scream for it. You have to live to cook.

For most of its electrifying first season, The Bear – a show from Christopher Storer (a producer on 2018’s coming-of-age indie-hit Eighth Grade and Ramy Youssef’s celebrated comedy Ramy ) about a ramshackle mom-and-pop Italian beef sandwich shop nearly invisible among the skyscrapers of Chicago’s River North neighbourhood – leans into that stereotype. The kitchen staff’s yelling is so loud and nasty and incessant, I found myself hitting pause just to give my adrenal glands a break.

Dr. Dylan Scott was hiding undercover officer Jo in an unfinished part of Halstead’s building, but things got complicated as he worked to help her get out of town.

While Scott tried to get her out, people connected to the drug case she

‘The Bear’ Star Jeremy Allen White Doesn’t Think Carmy Is ‘Ready to Enter a True Mentor’ Role in Season 2
Though their relationship might’ve been a contentious one, the bond between Sydney and Carmy was undeniably one of the best things about FX on Hulu’s “The Bear.” So, fans were pretty pleased to see her choose to forgive him and continue working with him in the season finale. But in all honesty, series star Jeremy Allen White isn’t sure Carmy is ready to be a mentor to anyone.

In the final minutes of the finale of “The Bear,” Carmy and his friends — minus Sydney (Ayo Edebiri) — have discovered that Carmy’s brother Michael kept the thousands of dollars he borrowed from Uncle Jimmy (Oliver Platt) stashed in the cans of tomato sauce at the restaurant. As they tear through the cans to find it all, Sydney walks in on the chaos. She and Carmy share a quiet moment, in which she agrees to return as his sous chef,

‘The Bear’ Creator Reveals How All That [Redacted] Got in Those [Redacted], and What Carmy Will Use It for in Season 2
[Editor’s note: This story contains major spoilers from the Season 1 finale of FX’s “The Bear” on Hulu.]

According to its 100 percent Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, “The Bear” is a flawless show.

Still, IndieWire had a few clarification questions for creator and co-showrunner (and director) Christopher Storer. We caught up with the busy “Ramy” alum via email, and received some surprisingly (for this business) satisfying answers to our burning questions. Get your Ove Gloves ready.

Previously, IndieWire spoke with series star Jeremy Allen White (“Shameless”) about the absolute panic attack that is the one-shot Episode 7, as well as his favorite real Chicago sandwich shop. During our 20-plus-minute phone conversation, White talked a bit about the huge Season 1 finale reveal: that Michael (Jon Bernthal) stashed wads of shrink-wrapped cash in the 10-oz. tomato cans Carmine (White) initially refused to open for the staff’s family spaghetti meal.
