Was making sure that freezer door was shut properly an improvised moment? I always found that highly amusing.
Talk about a pet peeve, I was so glad Mafalda shut it close (So many doors are never close in series or movies that’s so annoying!)
Elio mocking Oliver’s voice.
It was decided in the moment on the day of filming to have the two moving around the war monument during Elio’s love confession. Armie suggested it.
Elio’s reaction to the door slamming in the midnight scene.
Oliver kissing Elio’s foot. If you watch Tim, you can see him briefly react confused for a split second.
The brief dialogue when Isaac and Monir come to visit, when they first arrive and Marzia is just leaving.
And Oliver's little giggle in response.
Oliver kissing Elio's foot
I always thought that was scripted. Lovely moment though.
oh, I was going through my files and I didn't realize that I had two versions of the script, in the first is not scripted but in the second version there it is!
Hmmm - I’m not sure this means it was not improvisation. Surely there are many versions of the script. It could be that the improvisation was added to the script after it happened. They’re all brilliant actors and brilliant filmmakers. I just can’t even imagine how they created such art. Can’t even! Can’t!
Another one - improvised was the door slamming shut before elio and oliver finally have sex
Aren't all kisses, theoretically, improvised?
Edit: Or maybe "improvisational" is the better word choice? Aren't all kisses an improvisational dance... a pas de deux?
Scripted as in they know they’re going to film a kiss scene.
Scripted as in: Oliver leans in for the first kiss, their lower lips lightly touch (viewers may need to watch repeatedly to catch this detail). Oliver pauses and pulls back because Elio's mouth is open really wide (too wide, in the opinion of some repeat-viewers), and drops his hand from Elio's chin. Oliver smiles ever so gently (his face looking blissfully relaxed) and Elio will do a lip lick, during which the softness of Oliver's perfect (in the opinion of some viewers) lips is made clearly and excruciatingly evident.
You mean like that?
Depends. It might’ve been elaborated on similar to that or just scripted as “they kiss”.
Timmy also said in the commentary that there were takes without the lick.
Foot kissing was in script - not improv
Improvised scene when “Sony and Cher” arrive All the twirling was Timothee Elio putting his necklaces in his mouth - swimming and when he sits on Oliver’s bed
First time Marzia and Elio hook up on grass - none of that scripted
I was sure the foot kiss was improv?
And Elio/Marzia’s hook up is in the book so that’s sort of scripted.
2 versions of script - one had it/one didn’t
and Marzia and Elio convo was all improv
Do you have a source for this? It seems like a long scene to improvise.

many scenes mentioned here have been discussed in other places
Okay but that video doesn’t give any sources lol
There's a video on YouTube showing the scenes where TC improvised..... I'll post the title if I can find it again... it's pretty interesting.
Wait was it this video? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qhuqe_xLCAk
Yep, that's the one thank you... I thought it was really interesting....
Ooh I would love to see that! Let me know if you find it. :)
