Diesel in salamander/torpedo heater? | Homesteading Forum
I have a salamander/torpedo style fan forced heater that is rated for kero or diesel fuel. Does anyone have experience or know of anyone that's used diesel in their heater? I would think that diesel would stink more than kero, but I don't know if the newer lower sulfur diesel would help. Would the heater have problems with cold diesel (gelling) or soot? Diesel is around 70 cents cheaper a gallon than kero (northern IN), but I'd like to hear from anyone with experience before experimenting.
Straight diesel fuel will gel in the temps we have had lately. If you blend in 30% kero it will prevent that.
I run a blend in my Reddy heater that I use in the garage end of the barn.
