Old fashioned in a good way

We came with big group but they can accomodate this easily. Bar is also very suitable for this. Atmosphere is very nice. Place is old fashioned in a good way. Bit strange that fries were not available.

Terrible experience

We waited 15 minutes just to get our menu even though the restaurant was empty. Then we waited a whole hour for our appetizers to arrive. After we finished we had to wait another whole hour for our main course to arrive. By the time the main course arrived our mood was already ruined and we had lost our appetite. When we asked why the food was taking so long we got a response as follows: “You are not the only people in the restaurant, there are 5 other tables of people”

Superb restaurant

Fabulous meal for a birthday celebration, great service, great atmosphere, beautiful restaurant and fantastic menu and food. Couldnt find any faults. Would definitely go back again.

Fabulous!

Best meal and best service we have had in years! We did the four course tasting menu with the wine pairings. Everything was fantastic. It was a great experience! The, ambience, history and cachet of the place can't be beat. The dedication of the staff was heart warming, they were really wonderful. The wine pairings were spot on, I wouldn't try to second guess the sommelier. Try it! Date of visit: October 2022

Fancy with some Rotterdam no-nonsense

We had a 4 course dinner in the garden pavillion. It was not a surprise dinner (the courses were explained when we received the menu), so we knew what we were getting into beforehand. Although the place felt a bit classic and tight, there's also direct friendliness that also shows in the courses: it's chique but generous, professional but not without humor. For our aperitive I ordered a Negroni which I had spotted on the online menu. The waiter was a bit surprised by this: apparently the cocktail section of the site was two years old. Nevertheless we got our Negronis, and they didn't disappoint. We had a wine arrangement with our courses. Usually no long explanations here, but the wines were nonetheless a very good match for the accompanying food. All in all a very solid choice if you're in for a fancy but comfortable night out.

Superb quality

The old dutch is a historic restaurant which in the old days also had a Michelin star. Although those days are over, the current kitchen still serves food off that quality and exclusive taste. So don't expect large simple portions, but expect smaller size, well balanced flavours and complex gourmet. It's a great place to taste non standard dishes and take the time to enjoy a food experience. The atmosphere inside is still based on the old days, so large leather chairs, wooden accents and not too much lighting. Not my preferred taste, but it fits the picture and contributes to the whole. Great and convenient thing is that they offer valet parking at a reasonable price, not common in the Netherlands. So if your in the neighbourhood try it out! Prices for a main course range around 40 euro, lunch 3 course menu starting at the same price. Money well spent.

Very good place

Went there with business partners. Liked the hidden and quiet atmosphere of the place and the decoration. Food was delightful and we even got few things not on the menu as our partners seemed to be regulars. I recommend this place! Beware, prices are a bit on the expensive side, you pay the location i guess.

MUST TRY restaurant in Rotterdam

We saw this restaurant as we were passing by the street. It was closed on Sunday so we made a reservation for dinner on Monday. The service was impeccably good and we absolutely love the atmosphere. Waiters and waitresses are skillful and passionate and are always happy to assist you. And not to mention the food, authentic French and Dutch cuisine with rich flavor and nice plating. I couldn’t ask for a better way to end our visit in Rotterdam. This is a restaurant and an experience that you don’t wanna miss while in Rotterdam!

Old Dutch Style

It looks like an old Dutch farm house with a unique feel inside. It has been operating for more than 50 years. The food was very good and the service was mixed. The older waiters are amazing and the younger ones are being trained but you can tell some are not going to be there very long. It is definitely worth going and having some of the amazing game in the menu. I had some palen (eel) and Dutch shrimp to begin and then as main course the venison. The desserts were very good as well. Try the apple and lemon tart.

High Quality Old Style Restaurant

This restaurant is very central in Rotterdam with french style cuisine, which I have visited a number of times. Very old world decor. Excellent food and service, a quality fine dinning experience.

Old is not a guarantee

Here we have two kind of waiters: the old hands, seasoned and clad in black suits, their age matching the average age of their pundits, and the young completely inexperienced and with no idea how to take an order, how to have the right attitude, how to be accommodaring. The young woman who took our orders had really no idea what she was doing, mixed everything up and could only roll her eyes when we gently pointed her to her mistakes. Nevertheless, wrong dishes were served, the wine was forgotten and served too late. The food was good, not spectaculair and pretty standard. Not an evening to remember.

Wonderful experience!

We were a table of nine seated outside in the lovely garden. The food was beautifully prepared, had the halibut which was excellent. The lamb was prepared very well, served with very nice sides. Variety of desserts; all delicious. The service was very professional, friendly and attentive. We left the restaurant feeling well fed and well looked after. Will definitely return next time in Rotterdam.

Still excellent, Classic food

Every time I visit Rotterdam I make sure to visit The Old Dutch, classic restaurant for 25+ years, and every time it still amazes me. Classic, old style, servers in smoking, table side prep of meals, just amazing!!! Note: if you’re looking for a hip new style restaurant with lounge music and new creative dishes, this ain’t the place. This is one of the very few classic restaurants where they prepare your Lobster Bisque fresh table-side in a copper pan, where they filet your soul-meunière (Dover sole) next to you and prepare the classic French dessert Crepe Suzette table-side too. Just amazing to watch. You’ll pay a hefty price for the food but this is high quality always consistent classic French cuisine. Delicious!!! I have to say there are various newer dishes on the menu that look very tasty too and other table guests are very satisfied. I personally just go with the classics as they are hard to find anywhere else.

Fantastic building, perfect surroundings, great food and wine, high level service. A real experience and a must try when you visit Rotterdam. Not the cheapest but still value for money.
