I'm suspicious of Super Likes I'm suspicious of Super Likes

Hey, very new here, so, I'm kinda desperate for affection and just joined OkCupid a few days ago under the advice of my sibling who said it's way less toxic than Tinder (m'kay, both look like they don't give a fuck about yoy but fine)

Within that time, I have used maybe 3 Superlikes. The first time by accident a few minutes after I joined because god dammit, this swiping mechanic is terrible, I just want to open the person's profile, not be a creep, so I tried to backtrack with the "undo" arrow, if that does anything.

But yesterday and this morning, I voluntairly used 2 Super Likes and got two immediate matches. I'm talking instant. Two times in a row, an instant match, when the rest of the time, I was swiping right into the void. When I look, it says "You matched from a Super Like". What ?? Did the Super Like... FORCE a match ? Did it automatically make one ?? I'm not paying exorbent prices to know if 28 of my 30 likes live in Asia or near me, so I can't tell if they liked me first.

So, did the Super Likes cause the match ? Can they do that ? Have I just creeped out two women into a match they don't want because of some bullshit cheat option ?? I'm terrified !!

Dating in the Age of AI Dating in the Age of AI

Whitney Wolfe Herd, CEO of Bumble, envisions a future where AI takes the lead in dating by handling initial interactions and even going on dates on behalf of users. This AI concierge would sift through potential matches, engage in conversation, and recommend the most compatible individuals for face-to-face meetings, thereby streamlining the dating process. By leveraging artificial intelligence, Bumble aims to create a safer and more equitable digital platform while empowering users, particularly women, to navigate the complexities of modern dating with confidence. Despite concerns about the ethical implications and privacy issues associated with AI-driven relationships, Wolfe Herd remains optimistic about the potential of AI to foster healthier connections.

While Bumble's foray into AI-assisted dating represents a significant shift in the industry, experts caution against potential pitfalls, including emotional stress and privacy violations. The intersection of bots and romance has raised alarm bells, with past incidents highlighting the need for a legal and ethical framework to govern AI-powered relationships. Despite these challenges, Bumble remains committed to its mission of promoting healthy and equitable relationships through AI technology, dismissing concerns as a passing trend. As the dating landscape continues to evolve, the role of AI in shaping the way people connect and interact is likely to become increasingly prominent, potentially transforming the dating experience for millions of users worldwide.

The implications of Bumble's AI-driven approach to dating are multifaceted. On one hand, it offers potential benefits such as streamlining the matching process, providing personalised coaching and support, and potentially enhancing the overall user experience. By leveraging AI, Bumble aims to create a safer and more inclusive platform by empowering users to take control of their dating lives and make informed decisions.

However, there are also significant consequences and concerns to consider. The increasing reliance on AI in dating raises questions about privacy, data security, and the potential for emotional manipulation. Users may face challenges in establishing genuine connections and may experience heightened feelings of isolation or detachment from the dating process. Additionally, the ethical implications of AI-driven relationships, including issues of consent and autonomy, warrant careful consideration.

Furthermore, the broader societal impact of AI in dating extends beyond individual experiences. It may influence social norms and behaviours, reshape traditional notions of romance and intimacy, and contribute to the commodification of relationships. As AI continues to play a larger role in shaping the way people interact and form connections, it's essential to address these implications thoughtfully and proactively to ensure that technology serves the interests of all users and promotes healthy, fulfilling relationships.

Hi, I would be super interested to get peoples thoughts on this. For those currently single and looking - do you feel AI will be a help or a hindrance in online dating? Are you excited, concerned, or indifferent?

The above is an article I’m releasing in my newsletter tomorrow, hopefully it can spark some discussion.

Study on Online Profile Creation Study on Online Profile Creation

Hi there,

I’m a researcher from Trent University in Canada looking into how individual's lived experiences differs from their online identities/personas.

Our research aims to understand how people create social media profiles or video game characters, and the decisions people make around creating these personas. We are recruiting in this group, because we are interested in responses from people who use social media, dating apps, and role-playing video games. For this study, we are interested in interviewing people on Zoom for 30-45 minutes about the website, dating app, or game that they use most.

Can OKCupid give you any data or feedback about your personality and type? Especially after answering a boatload of questions. Can OKCupid give you any data or feedback about your personality and type? Especially after answering a boatload of questions.

I downloaded this app and went on answering a whole lot of questions (seriously). Before I delete the app I want to know what OKCupid makes of my responses. Has anyone been able to collect this data? It probably won't amount to much but a third-person (third-robot?) perspective is nice.

I NEVER match with women even remotely near me, But I am mr. popular with women in Africa and south asia...strange I NEVER match with women even remotely near me, But I am mr. popular with women in Africa and south asia...strange

Its strange, I have always had my distance set to 250km from where I was. When I look at and swipe profiles anywhere even remotely near me, I get nothing. I guess Absolutely ZERO women in Europe are interested in me. Yet when I randomly swipe in the passport section every other person is a match. Apparently I am Mr. popular in South Asia and Africa but an absolute pariah in Europe. I can swipe for months and never get one match. Or the app is a scam and purposefully only matches you with far away matches you are likely never to actually go and meet because actually matching you would in reality hurt their business?

Below, all matches from passport section, randomly swiping right on everyone. Immediately everyone matched. All the matches below are from Africa and South Asia. LOL Convince me OkCupid isnt a scam. For those of you who just signed up, and you immediatly see 30-40 likes on your profile. Don't pay for it. Guaranteed they are all from far away places you would have no intention of ever going to. These dating companies can't make an honest living.

Met an antivax nurse on OKC who said half of healthcare workers refuse vaccination. Asked her to cite a statistic so she said that wasn't her job...then deleted me...then texted me a screenshot of her inbox to try to make me jealous. I think I handled it appropriately. Is she attracted to me Is she attracted to me

Ok so I just recently started this job. Im a M(24) and I’ve noticed this girl at work keep staring at me. I haven’t noticed her or talked to her ever since recently and I’ve been at this job for two months. When I was in training she was always coming up to me and my trainer mainly talking to him but looking in my direction expecting me to say something ig. She would often pull onside him and talk to him and I could catch her staring Everytime I look back. She would stare at me and I would stare back we would lock eyes for a couple seconds. I went to the break room one day and all of a sudden as I’m leaving to get back on the floor she is walking towards the break room and I say hello. Main point is Everytime I look around this girl is close by. I’ve noticed she only talks to other guys and not me but looks back at me from time to time when she does. I decided to approach her one day and ask her about what’s been going on though she didn’t deny feelings or attraction she said she always talks to the trainer because he is the one who trained her. Ok cool I asked her about her dating life she said she is talking to someone. I backed off but ended up being very attracted to her now. After that day I asked for her number a couple days later. She said she would give her snap. I gave her my number hoping she would text me but she never did. I see her at work and ask her if she isn’t interested just tell me but she never says she is not. I told her how I feel about her and one day she gave me a Snapchat. She told me how to spell it and I added her. She never accepted my friend request. Fast forward I ask her friend wassup why she hasn’t text me because I really like her her friend said she has a man and I should back off… I told her to call her and she did. Girl asked for some seafood and I told her I’ll give her the money. Me her and her friend were supposed to go but nothing else was said about it. Now at work I see her and pass by without saying a word. Don’t even look at her. I still catch her looking at me… she still stares but she will pass by and just before she cuts a corner she takes a quick look in my direction. All I think about is her. She has tried to get my attention for a while and finally has. Recently I seen her talking to a guy at work I always say wassup to cool guy. Been at the job and never ever seen her talk to him. It hurt me not going to lie since idk if she wants him. Ever since I been tryna talk to her and give her my number convos are brief. I recently got new tattoos and she seen them. Keep in mind I haven’t been talking to her. I’m going on break and as I’m parking my equipment I see her walk out look dead at me smiling I look away and keep going. As I hop off my equipment she acts like she is tying her shoe ig tryna wait for me to catch up. Never seen her do that. I can keep going but long story short I’ll always catch her staring in my side eye. I have a strong feeling she likes me but then again idk. Ladies what’s your opinion?

Is it normal to get over a hundred likes in the first week as a guy? Is it normal to get over a hundred likes in the first week as a guy?

After hearing okcupid is better for nerdy guys, I decided to try it after doing bad on hinge and not well on bumble. I would only get around 1 like every week or two on bumble and even less on hinge for comparison. Since I made my new account, I've gotten over a hundred likes in my first week! Are these all overseas people or bots? I doubt there'd be THAT much of a difference in app performance and it seems suspicious.

I'm not seeing intros! Anyone else? I'm not seeing intros! Anyone else?

I know its a scam if you pay, its free and I still find dates when I swipe on enough guys to figure out who has liked me. But I have a specific issue and I'm wondering if it's just me.

This has been happening for years. I check my intros tab and there's nothing there. So every so often I start reading profiles and swiping on anyone that looks interesting. Occasionally I will open a profile and it says they sent have already sent me a intro! I click on the message and it's from 3-6 months ago! It's been sitting there the whole time, but I couldn't see it! This has happened to me probably 15 times over the past 5 years. Sometimes I do get messages in my intros tab, but for the most part I only find them when I open the person's profile on a whim.

I found one last week and messaged the guy and explained why I didn't respond for three months and...crickets. Either he didn't believe me or he had changed his mind. Whatever. I'm just pissed that this keeps happening!
