APRIL 17-18, 1999 THE BURBANK AIRPORT HILTON, BURBANK, CA. Hi everyone its your ever lovin' photo editor pinch hitting for our lovely columnist Chase Masterson who is abroad and going cross country meeting and greeting her fans and the supportive public. I hope I can do her column justice... Just as DEEP SPACE NINE was about to achieve closure, Weekend on the Promenade held what may be its final gathering. Established by Alexander Siddig in May 1994 in an effort to truly meet his fans as opposed to the larger more impersonal conventions most fans have to flock to, it has become a tradition. Always rooted in charity the first "Lunch with the Doctor" raised $2500 for Amnesty International. Other DS9 fan clubs soon followed suit:
-Armin Shimmerman and his club OASIS sold thousands of dollars worth of photos for his various charities. He currently supports MS, International Rescue and The Arthritis Foundation.
-Chase Masterson continues to work diligently for Caring for Babies with AIDS participating earlier this year in the annual Stroll-A-Thon.
-Nana Visitor raised over $7,000.00 for Amnesty International and Multiple Sclerosis
Other cast members and their charities :
-Rene Auberjonois supports a variety of charities
-Aron Eisenberg supports The Kidney Foundation
-Max Grodenchik supports The Shriner's Bum Center
-Marc Alaimo supports Pediatric Aids
-J.G. Hertzler supports Sclera Derma
-Andy Robinson supports Save The Children
-Avery Brook's Emissary club held A Breakfast and silent auction at Grand Slam 1998.
A special thanks should go out to Gayle Stever the event coordinator that made the weekend possible for many fans that have made friends for life and have shown all that the Star Trek Deep Space 9's actors and fans really do care. Proceeds from the event went to the following charities:
MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS SOCIETY
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY
AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL
SAVE THE CHILDREN
THE HEIFER PROJECT
DOCTORS WITHOUT BORDERS
