Several new and returning Star Wars characters are featured in the Obi-Wan Kenobi cast, with some big actors appearing in the Disney+ show. Disney and Lucasfilm brought George Lucas' franchise to the small screen with its first live-action show, The Mandalorian, in 2019, but now one of his original characters is returning to headline a series. Audiences first met Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi in 1977 when A New Hope debuted in theaters, but he received a much bigger role decades later when the prequels came out and Ewan McGregor took over the role.

More than 20 years after McGregor took on the role of Obi-Wan in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom MenaceObi-Wan Kenobi is the end result of Lucasfilm's long-standing efforts to bring him back. The studio originally devised plans for a movie, which could've become a franchise, but these ideas were scrapped after Solo: A Star Wars Story. Lucasfilm officially announced plans for Obi-Wan Kenobi as a Disney+ show in 2019, which takes place a decade after the Jedi was last seen in Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. It is through this setting that the miniseries will explore a new point in the Jedi's life and unveil the untold story of a rematch with Darth Vader.
