Aged for 6 years on yeast and a further 8 months in bottle. Also available as a limited released 'L. Roederer Cristal 1990-Millenium Cuvee', aged for 10 years (only in Methuselah bottle). Please, ensure your merchant has the Champagne you are looking for.
Critic tasting note: "The balance here between all the crushed rocks, stones, ripe citrus, green apples, lemon peel, flowers, honey, brioche, and racy acidity is just perfect. The bubbles are elegant, long, and fresh, giving you the perfect level of effervescence and fruit. I have tasted this at least 6 times, and with the exception of one bottle, they have all been extraordinary. I do think the initial bottle I tasted, which I posted a note on previously might have been opened too soon after shipping because subsequent bottles have all been better." - 98/100, Jeff Leve, The Wine Cellar Insider

The 2008 vintage was characterised by an unusually dry and cool summer and undoubtedly falls into the ‘continental’ vintage category: dense and powerful owing to its exceptional concentration. Nevertheless, the unusually cool temperatures over the summer made their mark on the vintage, giving it a remarkable intense and saline freshness.

Amber hue with green and orange tints. Fine, even and lively sparkle. Complex and intense bouquet disclosing candied citrus, yellow fruit, Williams pear, pollen and toasted almond. The delicately seductive bouquet shows intensity and well-honed precision. The wine is powerful, full yet tight, on entry to the palate. The 2008 is undeniably well structured but in a particular way: the wine’s almost saline concentration has not been created by the sun, but is derived from the dryness of the chalk soil in a particularly cool summer. The result is a smooth, almost liquorous, mouthfeel that coats the palate with a powerful yet soft texture. This gives way to an incredible finish, underpinned by freshness and an impression of absolute purity with a taut and very saline character.

Vintage quality: Legendary
Current condition: Ready to drink, will keep
For Champagne, the 2008 vintage was sublime.
A cold winter, chilly spring and dank summer made for a fairly poor growing season until conditions did an about-turn, particularly in Ambonnay, Bouzy and Aÿ. Suddenly, the weather was delivering bright, dry, ...
