Stephen Schwartz musical The Baker’s Wife has been announced for the Menier Chocolate Factory in London.
The show, which runs from 6 July 2024, will be directed by Gordon Greenberg (The Heart of Rock and Roll – Broadway), who returns to the Chocolate Factory following his production of Barnum.
Based on the 1938 French film by Marcel Pagnol and Jean Giono, The Baker’s Wife boasts music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Pippin, Godspell) and a book by Joseph Stein (The Fiddler on the Roof).
The Baker’s Wife is filled with some of Schwartz’s most beautiful music, and is set in a provincial French village.
Joining Gordon Greenberg in the creative team is Olivier Award winner Choreography Matt Cole (Newsies), plus Designer Paul Farnsworth, Lighting Designer Paul Anderson, Musical Supervisor and Orchestrator Stuart Morley and Musical Director Dustin Conrad.
Currently playing at the Menier is Power of Sail, which announced today a casting update for the show, which ends on 12 May 2024.
Next up is Jerry Herman revue Jerry’s Girls, from 18 May 2024, starring Cassidy Janson, Jessica Martin and Julie Yammanee, directed by Hannah Chissick, and also choreographed by Matt Cole.
The Baker’s Wife runs at the Menier Chocolate Factory from 6 July to 14 September 2024.
