We just got back from The Killers...it seems like we did something completely different than every other reviewer here. I feel like we were totally misled. It was short and not scary at all. At most there were a few moments where we were startled by people jumping out of the dark, but that was it. I expected background and history of the various serial killers...none of that. I would be angry about buying the VIP tickets, but at least we didn't have to wait a long time to be disappointed, they did get us right in. We are going to Blackout tomorrow night...hopefully that is better.

MAJOR rip off and mediocre scares. We were shuffled through in literally 14 minutes. Would NOT recommend!!

Ever since I first attended a few years back, I never miss Nightmare. Every year, it gets better and better, and I was worried that they couldn't top last year's Killers show, but they have done it. As a life long New Yorker, I got a kick out of seeing a deranged take on the NYC of my youth. It is not an exact recreation - because that would be boring. The folks at Nightmare have taken 80s NYC as inspiration and run with the idea to create something both really scary - but also compelling. I spent the whole time wide eyed trying to take it all in (such great detail -especially on the subway) while also fighting the urge to cover my eyes. It's not just a haunted house -it succeeds as a piece of theatre - with committed actors and expert direction and design. Besides the artistic stuff - it's a whole lot of fun, and there are some really great scares (no spoilers - go see it for yourself). The staff is courteous and helpful. Highly recommended! 'Nuff said. Go.

i was not in a group of 6 but at the end of a group of 9! Hense, i was actually not even in 3 of the "rooms" and saw nothing. On many rooms, because it took so long for 9 people to enter the "surprise" was even over by the time I could see. i even told the guy at the front before we went in that it was too many, and he said 9 is fine. it was not. a big guy was right in front of me and i really missed so much. make sure you insist that you are in a group of no more than 6 l
i was not in a group of 6 but at the end of a group of 9! hell, i did not even get into 3 of the "rooms" and the guy in front of me was so huge i barely saw anything. i even asked the guy before we went in why we were in a group of 9 instead of 6 like the rule says, and he said "oh, it's fine" well, it was not and i feel ripped off.
if you ever go, insist that you are no more than in a group of 6 or you will not be in so many of the rooms. not cool, guys.
2 stars tho because the actors were GREAT! Wish I could have seen it all. - Palma D.Brooklyn, NY69Nov 12, 2012
KILLERS was an amazing experience and awesome fun! You can tell how much thought and creativity went into each section, and each section was truly its own work of art. The attention to detail was outstanding and made it possible to lose yourself in the world they created. The actors all did a superb job, it isn't just a haunted house, it is interactive theatre. In addition, the intelligence behind the show was completely evident. Being greeted by a mother who lost her child to Albert Fish, while pictures of his victims were reeled on old film, and having her ask each one of the participants "why are you here?" caused you to be taken aback, and kicked you off balance just enough to heighten the experience. The inclusion of Dexter, the serial killer you sympathize with, at first seems out of place on the list, but then in context makes sense as evidence of our fascination with serial killers. The lobby gallery of original, real serial killer artifacts was museum worthy, well thought out, and helped set the mood before you went in. DO NOT MISS NEXT YEAR'S EVENT- come be fascinated, disgusted, entertained, and thoroughly horrified!!!

The scariest part about this place was the wait in line, and thats pretty much it. Once you're inside, and the anticipation ends, you are presented with a pretty mediocre haunted house. I dont know if its because my group was fairly large (8 people), or because it was just an off night. All I know, is that the majority of the actors weren't very good, and the jump scares were laughable. I gave it an extra star for the actor portraying charles manson, as he was very good. I can tell he put a lot of work into it, and although he wasn't scary, he was the most entertaining. I think what upsets me the most about my experience was the hype surrounding it, and all the positive reviews I read. "I dont recall when i've experienced anything this terrifying" says the director from the exorcist. Well, folks, I guess the director of the exorcist is a wuss cause this was not scary in the least bit. Oh, wait, I do know what was so scary about this place! It was the cost to get in. What a letdown... maybe next year will be better, who knows

I give it four stars because it had really good actors and I don't want to discredit them. But in terms of it being scary. It didn't scare ME personally all that much. That's why I took one star off. I get scared of things popping up at me unexpectedly and this isn't that type of horror house. It's more of a tour-like haunted house. You're going to walk around and witness scary things going on but not so much things coming at you & running at you when you don't expect it. Even if you allow them to touch you they do it when they're already talking to everyone. And you walk through at a timely rate. You don't run.. and I never screamed once although there were creepy moments. I think it was worth $15-20 not $35 because it was more amusing than scary. I prefer blood manor too. I screamed a bunch when I went to blood manor. That's just MY type of horror house. My friends & I were running through the house like crazy. It wasn't like we had to be spoken to & timed for a schedule. That haunted house had more things jumping & chasing at you out of nowhere. So overall it was pretty good although like I said not worth $35 because for someone who watches horror movies as much as I do it wasn't very scary. So if you're looking for interactive fun & nothing too crazy scary or if you get easily scared but not looking for a heart attack you should go here. But if you want things to catch you when you least expect it & you have balls of steel go to blood manor. It was pretty funny having some guy push me against the wall to tell me "you smell good; & I bet you're tight" hahahah.
