Went here for the screening event of Pain Hustlers, it's a very nice and cozy theater, clean setup with drinks service .
Parking is pretty convincing, there are many parking garages within reasonable walking distance.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 116341753Feb 13, 2024
I was here on a yelp event previewing a movie, the place was clean, employees super nice, food ok. Is an old movie theater so it's is what it is! Enjoy the experience!

I haven't been here in yearsssss, so it was nice to revisit. We attended last night's private screening of 'The Flash' with other DC Comics fans (Marvel all day tho!! -lol) and it was a blast.
Will add that last star if they finally renovate the theater seating. While the chairs aren't totally uncomfortable, you do miss the cushion of the more up-to-date theater seatings.

They also have special events, such as Meet the Filmaker-type viewings and (FREE!) screenings.
Plenty of booze and snack options at the conession stand. - Jun 2, 2023
Was here for The Flash early screening event. It was a ticketed event and I did acquire the tickets. Yes, I was aware that it's 1st come 1st serve basis so we'd have to come early but boy... There're probably over 100 of us that were turned away. I understand that you have to give extra passes just in case some people bail out, but common... How can you miss the estimate by 100+ people?!?! If your theater can only fit 200 guests, you don't give out 350 passes... 0 common sense.
What annoyed me most was the fact that the workers lied by promising us another future screening. We waited for 30 additional minutes because they had to scan our tickets individually so they could give us guaranteed tickets for another screening via email. And we wouldn't have to even come early this time - the seats're 100% guaranteed. But there's nothing on my email lol. WB also said that's not their problem. That's when I realized that their fake guarantee's just a ploy to disperse the pissed off crowd.
I took off from work early, drove for an hour, paid for parking garage just to be turned away last minute and lied to. It's easily 1 of the biggest mis-managed events I've been to.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sep 18, 2022
This is a movie theatre that has been in DC for ages-- and I've been here a lot. May not look like much for the front but you go in and are greeted by friendly staff.
They show a lot of indie films, documentaries, a lot of movies that you might not see in the regular theatres. I once saw a beautiful film called Loving Vincent here!
Then down the stairs or escalator you go... and refreshments are there for purchase-- bonus, they have booze!!
Theatres are smaller and feel more intimate. If you're like me and a prone to getting chilly, bring a sweater and enjoy the show!
Ps. Doors open 15 mins before the first movie and stay open 15 mins after the last show ends.
Pss. $7 tickets on Tuesdays :)Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Aug 15, 2023
For a downtown cinema, this place is pretty nice. The theaters themselves are adequate and the range of movies shown at any given time seems pretty expansive. The concessions are a mix of the usual movie fare and some unique local options. Ticket prices are also pretty reasonable.

Re-reviewing landmark because had a great experience last time I went! It seems they've fixed the issues beforehand (they were air conditioned which was nice). Fun movie experience.

Their business model needs to change because heinous. I had gotten a notification to get a free pass to an early screening of the Flash. I got it and arrived to the cinema about 20 minutes beforehand. I had seen a disclaimer that they do overbook the theaters but why was the line all the way across the whole bottom floor of people who didn't get it????? Frustrating
Additionally, I had already paid for popcorn so overpriced food is already a bummer with no movie. I heard from one of the cashiers that the wait for hot food was 30 minutes...

E Street Cinema is a DC treasure. Its movie selection and convenient, central location are an invaluable asset to DC residents. The food and drink counters are excellent, albeit, tad overpriced.

I mean, pretty solid. For a city cinema it did everything you needed it to. Played the movie and provide a popcorn option. Can't ask for much more!

This theater used to be a pillar of the DC community and a great place to catch indie films. Now--unfriendly ticketing staff, bored, grumpy concession staff, bad concession food (their tater tots taste like wet cardboard), and consistently out-of-order bathroom toilets, which aren't cleaned or maintained routinely. There's no joy in this place.
This theater is aging and resting on its laurels. It only gets some stars since it still offers decent indie films with tasteful pre-show ads. But they must have financial issues since I see them offering blockbuster films more often.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
