Lost in Space is the shockingly successful remake of sci-fi master Irwin Allen's 1965 TV classic. It's an epic, but surprisingly grounded, sci-fi series about an explorer family lost in an alien universe. Together, they face challenges and work to stay together against all odds. The show has attracted a major fan base, and those who binged the entire series in one night are eagerly looking for more that might quench their thirst.

7 Away

Away

Away wasn't as well-received as creators hoped, but its story does have a lot of promise. The space drama focuses more on the emotions people go through when their loved one is away, or when they're in isolation. The plot of the show is very promising, but sadly the writing lacks some major elements that are needed in true sci-fi shows.

The technology is outdated, there are sound effects in space, and somehow real-time conversations are possible from space to Earth. These are just some small details that frustrate the biggest sci-fi fans, but for those who are interested in the emotional and psychological premise, it's a show worth watching.

6 Nightflyers

Nightflyers

Nightflyers is one of those shows that was badly received by critics, but viewers seem to enjoy it regardless. It's not a perfect show, but the plot is enjoyable. And as a space drama, it stands its ground. The cast is amazing, and their chemistry is almost tangible through the screen.

But the number one thing that grabs viewers is this show's sense of mystery. It keeps everyone at the edge of their seats throughout. Because of this, it's a perfect candidate for a weekend binge, and while it's not an award-winning masterpiece, it's a decent space drama to watch on lazy days.

5 Omniscient

Omniscient

Omniscient has a rough start, but by the end of the first episode, viewers become hooked and can't wait to binge the show. The plot does get out of hand at points, but eventually, it finds its way back, and everything has the ending as it deserves. Sadly, it's a very short series, and there is no news of a second season in production.

In Omniscient, The System prevents citizens from committing crimes by monitoring them with tiny drones. But one murder slips through The System, kick-starting a vengeful young girl's mission to hack into The System and learn its secrets, solving the murder along the way.

4 Better Than Us

Better Than Us

Better Than Us has a similar vibe as Westworld thanks to its unique depiction of technology. The show is somewhat inspired by the videogame Detroit: Become Human, as it's set in a world where robots are a part of everyone's daily routine. They help raise children, they do chores and errands, etc.

The show is exciting and binge-worthy, and makes people ponder about what it's going to be living in a future similar to this one.

1 Altered Carbon

Altered Carbon

Though it's more of a cyberpunk show than strict sci-fi, Altered Carbon is one of the best shows on Netflix today, and it's somewhat underrated. The show is incredibly well-written, and the details of its world are beautifully thought out. There's logic in every movement, which gives the show the right foundation, allowing viewers to fully submerge into its reality.

In a world where humans became practically immortal, Takeshi Kovacs navigates through a reality that he despises to earn his freedom. The show is full of political, social, and religious themes, exploring what would happen to each of these if humans did become immortal. Furthermore, its underlying crime plot, passionate love story, and heartbreaking story of the bond between brother and sister make Altered Carbon one of the best shows on Netflix today.
