Submit a Letter to the Editor

Readers of The New York Times can submit letters to letters@nytimes.com.

To be considered for publication, letters should:

  • Preferably be 150 to 200 words.
  • Generally refer to an article that has appeared within the past seven days.
  • Include the writer’s city or town and phone number.
  • Not contain attachments.
  • Be exclusive to The New York Times. We do not publish open letters or third-party letters.

Because of the large volume of submissions we receive, we cannot personally acknowledge each submission.

  • Writers of letters selected for publication will generally be notified within a week.
  • Letters may be edited and shortened for space.
