The World War II Museum was within walking distance of our hotel. It's fantastic!! So much history, so much to learn. We only had a couple of hours which didn't do it justice, you could easily spend more than one day there.

It was very interesting to see a lot of huge characters displayed. We saw the process of how to make them and several of the floats. It was an inexpensive tour, well worth the time and expense. They even have a shuttle to transport you there and back.

Staying in the French Quarter and found this lovely tour right in the heart of the Quarter and walked past this house without realizing this was even there! It was really amazing to see what lies right in the heart of this historic and festive district and still getting a realistic understanding of urban slavery. And at $17 per adult and $14 for students, military and seniors (under 8 are free!), this is the best bang for your buck in the French Quarter! (Honestly, cheaper than a 12" po-boy).

Judith was our tour guide, and the epitome of Southern charm and class as well as being very knowledgeable and patient with the questions and comments from the younger members of our group.

We were shown the opulence of the rich owners as a counterpoint of how the servants had to live. It could have been a Downton Abbey European manor with the upstairs/downstairs difference between the classes but with the unique 19th century American tradition of having enslaved people being the workers and servants.

Let's face it, slavery was as much a part of the growth of America (especially the South) as the steam engine was a part of the Industrial Revolution, and to deny or try to imagine that it wasn't is like saying that the Wright Bros. had nothing to do with airplanes.

Our family's takeaway was that at that time, everyone either had slaves or wanted them, because it was a status symbol and part the misleading system that the government supported at the time. We learned that even freed Blacks at the time owned slaves, which was eye opening. Was it right? (morally no, but culturally yes), and that the slaves that lived here were some of the highest ranked in slave hierarchy because they were domestic servants and were regarded as more skilled and valuable in opposition to field hands that worked on plantations.

This tour didn't make my kids feel bad about themselves because it was more about a time when these things were accepted and a part of everyday society. I am sure that there will be things that are common practice today that future generations will be embarrassed about, but the history of the Hermann-Grima House and its occupants are an important reminder of a history that we should accept, learn from, and try not to repeat.

To quote the kids, "Slavery was pretty messed up, but that tour was dope".

Spectacular sculpture gardens and it was all FREE!
On a beautiful day, there's nothing like a walk in these shaded, fragrant gardens. Just wonderful!

This was one of the best tours my husband and I have experienced. The museum is very well put together and we stayed engaged throughout. We smelled spices, interacted with virtual bartenders, learned a lot of history, and of course drank some cocktails. I had looked forward to this since our last trip, and it did not disappoint.

What a fantastic time. 2 levels of history. Its way bigger then it looks inside. I would definitely visit again if I was in New Orleans.

A solid art museum with a decent number of works from the great artists and a solid number from more recent artists. The text for the work can be hard to read: low to the ground, and light font on a light background. It’s worth the trip but not something I’d go to again.

The Audubon Insectarium was such an eye opening and educational experience! The staff members were very passionate about the insects they work with, and the displays were very intriguing for visitors of all ages! The beautiful bugs, and even the "creepy crawlies", were so much fun to learn about! The best part was the butterfly garden! You get to observe butterflies of all shapes, sizes, and colors in their habitats. It is a joy to bring your family here! It took about an hour to look at everything which was very doable after going to the aquarium!

I’ve been three times now over many years. This was the second time we saw the Katrina exhibit, still very moving. The Mardi Gras exhibit has been here for a while also, but they’ve changed and added to it, and still very enjoyable to go through, and very interesting. This is a must visit when you are in New Orleans, doesn’t cost much, doesn’t take long and it’s in the middle of everything!

A jewel box of a museum. Was amazing to get such a close up view of the incredible Mardi Gras Indian costumes, and to read firsthand about the people and organizations who keep the special culture of New Orleans alive. I especially loved chatting with the museum staff, who shared great stories and gave us a few tips on where else to check out in the neighborhood. A great stop for visitors who want to appreciate and support the real deal.

Great tour that provided detailed information into the architecture and history of the home. I wish this tour provided more information on the enslaved individuals.

Lovely museum. Customer service is nice and helpful. And the art, a window into the South over time in many different mediums. My friend and I both enjoyed all that we saw. Where were the Florida artists?

Beautiful place, with many amazing historical artifacts. Great seeing all the war between the states items. Great little store to purchase real history. Wish they had kept the name Confederate Memorial Hall. We try to go every time we visit New Orleans.

My wife and I took the walking tour through the French Quarter, offered by the 1850 House Museum. Our tour was conducted by Judy. The tour took a bit over two hours but it certainly didn't seem that long. Judy was not born in the area, but moved here because she liked New Orleans. She took the time to learn about the area and turned that knowledge into becoming a tour guide. Judy told us a great deal about The Quarter, the architecture, and a few local legends. Our tour was well worth the price and I would recommend the tour, and in particular tour guide Judy, if you would like to learn about the New Orleans French Quarter.
