This place was on my "must do" list for NOLA. Our local arepa eatery closed several years ago so when I am on vacation I always check to see if there is a local Arepa House. We were not disappointed! Mais Arepas had all of...our favorites, and the margaritas were delicious. Our waitress was very attentive and was happy to describe and explain the menu items to us. We will definitely visit here again on our next trip to NOLA!More

This is a super cool restaurant, filled with art pieces and a nice ambient. The food is Colombian and absolutely delicious! Everything we ate was perfect! Definitively the best ceviche I ever ate. The drinks were amazing as well. We had a large group and...everything we ordered was flavorful and made to perfection. Really a fantastic place to eat and have drinks. Staff was super nice! The place is a bit hidden on a parallel st to St. Charles av, however, you can take the street car to the first stop on St. Charles av and walk a couple blocks to get there. Totally worth going. Family friendly and clean. It is everything you would want from a restaurant! Thank youMore

Authentic Creole style Colombian food. Nice ambiance, good and quick service. The Arepas are to die for. The selection is versatile. Appetizers are good to. Empanadas are cooked with the same corn meal as they are in Colombia. No shortcuts with their ingredients. The prices...were decent especially for that area which is very touristy.More

We come to New Orleans at least once per year. We’ve eaten at Maïs Arepas several times, and it never disappoints. This last time was really over the top. Our server was named Sebastian, a native of Columbia, and I wish I had taken a...photo, because it’s hard to believe he existed! Not only was he so suave and beautiful (the whole table, including the men, had a crush on him), but he made wonderful food and drink selections that really made our meal a standout experience. My friend had the vegetarian arepa, which had gorgeous, well seasoned grilled vegetables. We’ve all had it before, and it is so tasty and light! For me, Sebastian recommended Bandeja Paisa, which is a mixed smorgasbord of plantains, skirt steak, chorizo, cranberry beans, chicharron, fried egg, and more. For my husband, Sebastian recommended costillas de cerdo, which is slow cooked pork ribs, slaw, guava bbq, and out of this world yucca fries! Both dishes were cooked just right and bursting with flavor. Sebastian also made wonderful drink recommendations and we really loved the lulada he recommended. Sebastian really acted as an ambassador for Columbia! We love this place and will come back again and again. Still wish I had gotten a photo of us with Sebastian!More

I’d seen this place come up while researching restaurants, and as it was only a 20 minute walk from the Smoothie King Arena it was an easy dinner spot before going to a Pelicans game. They normally only take reservations by phone, but since we...were coming from the UK they let me book through Instagram message (though they would really benefit from a proper website and booking platform). As it turned out, we needn’t have booked for when they opened at 5.30 as the space was quite big and there weren’t many others in. All of the servers were lovely, and it was baby friendly. We ordered the choriarepa (chorizo, avocado salsa, and mozzarella) and the pabellon (skirt steak, black beans, plantains and cojita cheese) which were both delicious, though the chorizo was a little spicy for my wife.More

Wow! Great food. Found this restaurant by searching nearby restaurants on a another travel site. Glad I did. Took a walk from the World War II museum around a neat monument to this restaurant, just on the other side of the highway. Don’t let the...neighborhood’s appearance or homeless tents scare you away. Wonderful Colombian/Latin menu. I had the shrimp ceviche and whole fried fish, which was red snapper, as recommended by my server. Simply put, the ceviche was the best ceviche I have ever eaten. Lots of shrimp, in a sauce with red onions that was truly memorable. Served with miniature plantain chips was also tasty experience. The snapper, which was lightly seasoned and fried was mouthwatering and delicious. Nice size portion. It was served with some type of fried flat pancake that was also very good. 15 or so Arepas on the menu as well. See the photo I took of the menu. Cozy venue and friendly staff. Pricey lunch, but worth every penny in my opinion!More

My husband and I are frequent visitors to New Orleans. We ate at Maïs Arepas for the first time about 6 years ago. In all our 22 trips to New Orleans, it was/is the best meal we ever had and the one we have talked...about since. I remember savoring my ceviche and arepas, making all sorts of faces and noises, I'm sure, and glancing over to see a lovely lady in the kitchen looking at me--smiling and shaking her head proudly, like, "Yeah, I know you love it." She was right. It was a special experience we never forgot. Fast forward, we returned this past weekend, finally, hoping this experience would be as memorable as our first. Needless to say, it was just as special. The food was exceptional and beautifully prepared. Service was top-notch. I can't even find words to describe how delicious the sangria was. The chef took time out of is busy work to stop by our table and chat. Our 23rd trip to New Orleans is over, sadly, but Maïs Arepas is, once again, a highlight of our time there. Thank you for living up to everything we remembered!!More

We dropped in with no reservation the Friday after Mardi Gras had ended, 6ish. We were immediately seated. Service was great, as was the food. We had the Maiz de le Ruedo (think Mexican street corn) and house salad to share. We each had an...arapas. Mine was Columbian style pulled pork with pickled red onions and cojita cheese. My Margarita was tasty! Will we go back? Most certainly.More

Wonderfully authentic Columbia food and great service. Everything we ate was wonderful, especially the skirt steak and arepas! The BANDEJA PAISA is a must try. My 6 year old son, whose willing to try new foods, said it was the best meal of his life....The streets getting there are a little rough with construction, but certainly well worth the effort!More

Brought my 17 year old here for his bday celebration in NOLA. We are from the San Francisco Bay area and were looking for good comida. We found it at this incredible, quaint, friendly restaurant! Our waitress, Gabriela, was delightful and happy to have a...conversation in Spanish with my son. He ordered the Carne Asada and I ordered the Marinera Arepa. Delicioso! Topped it off with the waitresses singing ‘Happy Birthday’ upon delivering the flan. (the flan had a delightful honey fruit sauce. We forgot to take a picture before digging in!). Will definitely return if we are ever back in NOLA.More

Mais Arespas serves up some excellent eats... particularly their arepas... but other menu items as well. I have eaten here four times under different circumstances and with varying party sizes. Each experience has been excellent. The service, the food, the drinks, the atmosphere, and the...value are all a win. You may need to schedule reservations in advance, as I have attempted to come other times when they just didn't have the space!!More

Really good food! All gluten free which is great for a Celiac family. The arepas were out of this world. They were huge - we shared a skirt steak, chicken and pulled pork. Topped with a delicious red wine San gria.

Last Nola meal before the airport. What a great choice. If you love arepas and great latin fusion. This is a great choice for alternate selections. We started with a daily special. Fried pork belly ceviche. Always thought ceviche was raw seafood in citrus juice....But this is a fusion at it's finest. We loved it. I had a combo arepa appetizer. Slow roasted beef, so savory. Shredded pork , very flavourful. And the surprise kicker chicken avocado 🥑. So good if I lived in the area. I'm sure this would be a lunch favorite. My wife had the shrimp 🦐 chorizo arepa with plantain chips. It was all excellent. O yah and we took a mango flan to go. Glad we did. P S I took one of my wife's plantain chips and made my own Latin nacho. (Mais ,this should be an appetizer. If you use this call it Bears nachos. LOL)More
