Barcelona have been in contact with Chelsea for many months with regards to possible transfers of their players. They were first in talks over Andreas Christensen, then Cezar Azpilicueta, and Antonio Rudiger.
With Rudiger off to Real Madrid, Barcelona have other things to focus on, such as improving their left-back position. This is the reason why the garnet and blue are interested in Marcos Alonso, again of Chelsea, for next season.
The current Champions League holders have an offer up their sleeve. They are offering up Azpilicueta and Alonso in exchange for Sergiño Dest and Neto Murara, according to a report relayed by SPORT.
The news somewhat confirms the recent report that Barcelona had nine players they wanted to part ways with this summer.
Alonso is perceived by Xavi Hernandez as the perfect replacement and/or complement to Jordi Alba. He has immense experience at the top level, and juxtaposing this is the fact that he has experience playing positional play.
Notwithstanding Barça’s interest, the Catalans are linked with almost, if not more than ten other different left-backs right now, including Alejandro Grimaldo, a former academy player.
Azpilicueta has been rumoured to join Barcelona for many months and is valued because he is a great defender. The Spanish International can be of use in easing Gerard Pique out of the team’s dynamics due to his vast experience at the top level.
On the other end of the deal, Neto would finally get to leave Barcelona, which he has seemingly wanted to do for two seasons now. Dest might not leave, though, given Xavi has said severally that he is valuable to his sporting project.
The next months will be crucial in determining their career paths. Barcelona are yet to agree to any such deal, and likely will not.
