Report: Arsenal battling Unai Emery in race to sign Barcelona 32-year-old on loan

Spanish newspaper SPORT claim Arsenal are battling Unai Emery and Villarreal and Valencia in the race to sign Barcelona goalkeeper Neto on loan this summer. The Gunners have long been linked with Neto.

One-time Brazil international Neto, 32, joined Barcelona in 2019 for £22million (Reuters). But he has struggled for game time ever since, playing just 21 times. He has conceded only 20 goals, keeping an impressive seven clean sheets.

But Neto is about to enter the final 12 months of his contract at Barcelona. Arsenal, Valencia and Villarreal are among his suitors with a loan move expected this summer. Bernd Leno is expected to leave the Gunners.

As aforementioned, Arsenal have long been looking at Neto – stretching back to past transfer windows. Now, they are facing competition from Emery in the race to sign him on loan – as well as Neto’s former side Valencia.

If Arsenal want to sign another goalkeeper, what does that say about Matt Turner? The USA international will arrive in North London this summer from New England Revolution – as a replacement for Leno.

Turner is likely to be Aaron Ramsdale’s cover. But if Arsenal are now considering another move for a goalkeeper despite the presence of Ramsdale and Turner, it suggests they are not fully convinced regarding Turner.

Neto is a top goalkeeper and would add to the Brazilian contingent at The Emirates. A solid goalkeeper, and an even-more solid signing on loan with Barcelona paying some wages. But it does raise a question on Turner.
