About Triestina

Founded in 1918, Triestina are based in the north-eastern city of Trieste and are something of a sleeping giant. They featured in nearly thirty consecutive Serie A seasons (including a second place finish in 1947-48) until the late 1950s but in subsequent decades have struggled to reach the top flight.

The impressive stadium is one of Italy's most recent and unlike many others in the country, doesn't have a running track separating the stands from the pitch. It is located a few miles south of the city centre.

The port of Trieste is the capital of the far north-eastern region of Italy, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, and was long part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Although the town is now part of Italy, it retains a not-quite-Italian feel with Slovenian and German influences easily seen. There aren't a huge number of 'must-see' tourist attractions in Trieste, but it's a pleasant place to spend a day or two. With an airport served by budget flights from the UK, it is also a convenient starting point for travelling down the coast into Croatia or inland into Slovenia, both countries with plenty to offer for holidaymakers.
