Neon Jungle members now: What happened to the ‘Braveheart’ band featuring I’m A Celebrity’s Jessica Plummer

The band peaked at number four in the UK singles chart, but split up in 2015 after releasing their one and only album, Welcome To The Jungle

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! fans were stunned to find out that contestant Jessica Plummer was in the girl group Neon Jungle.

Viewers had no idea that the 28-year-old actress was one of the band’s four members – although she is now best known for playing Chantelle Atkins in EastEnders, with her character being killed off earlier this year in a harrowing domestic abuse storyline.

Here’s what we know so far about what happened to the other Neon Jungle members after their brief moment in the spotlight.

The four-piece girl group consisted of Jessica Plumber, Shereen Cutkelvin, Amira McCarthy and Asami Zdrenka.

They supported Jessie J on tour in 2013, and performed at various music festivals including Wireless, Isle of Wight, V Festival and T in the Park.

They also performed alongside Taylor Swift at the annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.

Speaking to Fearne Cotton during a Radio 1 Live Lounge performance, the group said their dream was to achieve world domination.

Ms Cutkelvin said: “I think it would be really awesome for us to be a household name.”

They peaked at number four in the UK singles chart with second single Braveheart, but sadly split up in 2015 after releasing their one and only album, Welcome To The Jungle.

In 2019, Ms Plummer joined EastEnders in the role of the much-anticipated Chantelle Atkins – the daughter of established character Karen Taylor – who was tragically killed at the hands of her partner Gray.

The 28-year-old from South London has a four-year-old daughter called Noa, and studied acting at the Identity School of Acting in London before finding fame in Neon Jungle.

In 2013, she made her television debut in a British science fantasy series called Wizards vs Aliens, where she played the role of Chloe. The series followed the adventures of a 16-year-old wizard called Tom Clarke and his scientifically gifted best friend, Benny Sherwood.

In 2017, Jessica made her film debut in How to Talk to Girls at Parties, alongside Nicole Kidman and Matt Lucas. The sci-fi/rom-com premiered at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival.

Following her exit from EastEnders, it was confirmed that Jessica’s next acting role would be in TV series Auditions, where she would be starring alongside fellow EastEnders alum Gary Beadle, who played Paul Trueman between 2001 and 2004.

Shereen Cutkelvin

Born in Lanark, Scotland, Ms Cutkelvin was the youngest member of Neon Jungle and went on to appear on The X Factor.

Alongside her older brothers Jay and Kyle, she sang in The Cutkelvins.

The trio were mentored by Simon Cowell in the groups category, and made it to the semi final, finishing in fifth place.

Most recently, Ms Cutkelvin became the co-host of BBC Introducing radio show in Scotland, which showcases the best unsigned, undiscovered and under-the-radar music Scotland has to offer.

Amira McCarthy

Ms McCarthy has worked as a model, although she has mostly stayed out of the limelight since Neon Jungle split up.

She always knew performing was something she wanted to do and was scouted to be in the group, found in Westfields Shopping Centre in west London.

Asami Zdrenka

Born in Japan to Japanese and British parents, Ms Zdrenka moved to the UK when she was young, and has always loved to sing. Her Instagram profile reads: “An avid climber of a good tree and I sing a bit too..”

After Neon Jungle’s split, she worked on solo material, and released a video series entitled A Cover Trilogy.
