Craig Nelson, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on December 13, 2023, at the age of 70. Born on December 26, 1952, Craig is survived by his loving wife, Judy, with whom he shared countless memories and a beautiful life. His legacy continues through his children, Brent (Jeannette) Nelson, Brad (Krista) Nelson, and Christina Smith, who will forever remember his wisdom and guidance. Craig's joy was multiplied by his grandchildren, Shelby, Hunter, Autumn, Caleb, Skylar, and Lilly Nelson, and Haylee Miron, all of whom he supported with pride and affection. His great-grandson, Braxton Van Zanten, will grow up hearing tales of Craig's kindness and wit. Craig is also lovingly remembered by his brother, John Nelson; sisters, April (Harold) Issac and Nellie Russell; sister-in-law, Sandy (Tim) Van Zegeren and Billi (Brian) Bosman; brother-in-law Tom Eggleston; and an extended family of nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Laura Nelson; brother, David Nelson; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harold and Shirley Eggleston; brother-in-law, Ralph Eggleston. Craig's career at the Overhead Door Company in Grand Rapids was marked by hard work, reliability, and the respect of his colleagues. Craig's involvement and assistance with projects at his church were particularly cherished, reflecting his commitment to service and faith. An avid outdoorsman, Craig relished the tranquility of nature, whether he was hunting, fishing, or simply tending to his hobby farm. He loved supporting his children and grandchildren in all of their pursuits including school sports, education, hunting and fishing. Craig had the ability to fix anything especially to avoid buying anything new. He found joy in working on puzzles, gardening, and spending time at his cottage on Upper Silver Lake. His annual trips to Florida were a source of great pleasure and relaxation. One of Craig's greatest joys was imparting his knowledge to his children and grandchildren. He was a natural teacher, whether he was explaining the intricacies of mushroom hunting or demonstrating the finer points of becoming the worlds greatest hunter. His wisdom and humor will continue to influence and inspire his family for generations to come. Craig's life was a testament to the power of love, the value of laughter, and the importance of family. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His presence was a beacon of joy and comfort, and his memory will forever be a source of strength for his family and friends. Craig Nelson's journey on this earth has concluded, but the stories of his kindness, humor, and the love he shared will endure. As we say goodbye to this remarkable man, we celebrate a life well-lived and a legacy that will continue to warm our hearts. Rest in peace, Craig. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at Camp Lake Baptist Church, 12150 N. Division Ave., Sparta. His family will greet relatives and friends Monday from 5 to 8PM at the Pederson Funeral Home, 127 N. Monroe St., and one hour prior to the service at Church on Tuesday.
