Two Daytime-Emmy winner Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis Davis) weighed-in on the latest writing regime change at General Hospital. Viewers will soon see the story and the scripts from the new co-head writing team of Patrick Mulcahey and Elizabeth Korte.

The new duo in charge of the storylines, replace Chris Van Etten and Dan O’Connor.  Fans of GH are expected to see the new regimes story begin to play out on-air in a matter of a weeks.

Grahn spoke to Soap Opera Digest, where she talked of working with Mulcahey, who wrote for her when she played Julia Wainwright on Santa Barbara, and Korte who has been part of the GH writing team for decades.

On Korte, Nancy expressed that she is, “Incredibly skilled and focused and incredibly dedicated to the show.”  When speaking on Mulcahey’s writing style, Nancy added that his strengths include, “Telling stories that are coming through characters and flow through the characters. And hopefully, when you watch the show, it might move in a direction where you’re caring and feeling more, and that’s, I think, what our job is.”

With great optimism for GH’s future, Grahn said of Mulcahey: “He loves to make characters dimensional and interesting and I’m excited to come to work to see what he’s going to write. And for me to be doing this, this long, and then to feel like, ‘Oh, this is going to be fun!’ that’s pretty great.”‘

Many GH fans are hoping the regime change will make the show more enjoyable for them, and that they get to see more of the characters they love to love and love to hate. As Grahn had high praise for Patrick and Elizabeth, she also related, “I think there’s every reason for people (who watch GH) to be encouraged. I just feel that really positive things are happening at General Hospital and that it’s going to be fun for people to watch. I think he and Elizabeth are a great team.”

So, are you looking forward to seeing how Patrick Mulcahey and Elizabeth Korte change the tone and story of General Hospital? Comment below.

If she means “care” as in Gregory dying a slow, torturous, death, no thank you. I’d rather they write that he was misdiagnosed so that he can be “fun” with Alexis and Tracy. They have gold with this actor and character; an older romantic lead with a charming, intelligent, witty, personality, not to mention wisdom and compassion, who is great to watch not only as a father and grandfather but as a romantic lead for Alexis and Tracy. I guess they feel they’ll get a bigger group cry when they deteriorate him and kill him off. Stop. Just stop with the harsh realities of life and get back to the mob, karaoke, romance, rivalries, and over-the-top, soapy fun.

Agreed on the Gregory take. What a shame if they let him pass…

Just a hard no to rewriting Gregory’s diagnosis. It’s a huge slap in the face to anyone who has watched a relative die from a fatal disease and would make the past how many months of beautiful story meaningless. Gregory Harrison was hired to do justice to this story and he is. Let him gracefully see it through and be true to the vision of the story — about a family coming together with love and courage to face the unthinkable together.

Good point, and they already committed a grave injustice with the grossly unrealistic story of Willow’s cancer. I totally understand Rebecca’s point though. Gregory has a natural warmth-he’s so good you don’t even know he’s acting. It is a shame but they can’t walk the story back. I wish they could.

Agree

I think the reason they brought Gregory Harrison back to GH was for the ALS storyline, so I don’t think they will change the storyline. I kinda hope they follow through with it. But it is interesting that Gregory seems to be more valued and popular than Finn.

Placing anyone in Tracy’s orbit makes that other character much more compelling.

Gregory Harrison has a very calming likability. With Tracy or Violet it comes out – not as much with Alexis.

With Gregory’s condition and the upcoming wedding, they have to address or bring back (at least temporarily) Jackie. Chase is getting married and hasn’t mentioned his mother once? Gregory never mentioned if their divorce was finalized.

Do you watch the show? Finn is nice but not of the same caliber.

You said it all every single word! I can’t believe these idiots will actually kill him off, makes me sick!

Hopefully they kill off Cyrus.

I think she is a great actress but very difficult to get along with! But then again I have not watched since 2018 I don’t even know the characters anymore .

I like her optimism, it gives me hope that the two new head writers can clean up the mess the two departing writers made. We need character driven stories that are well paced, come to an eventual resolution and are interesting. Cynthia Watros and Nancy Lee Grahan are too extremely talented actors. I look forward to the snappy back and forth that will transpire between these two characters that will underscore their differences but also find a way to connect them. Both women have suffered at the hands of an evil, maniacal woman, and no, I don’t mean Carly. I am speaking of Helena and Madeline.

I would love to see the writers breath new life into the hospital. There was a time when the doctors/medical cast played a bigger role on the show, and there was a balance of storylines between the medical cast and mob storylines. The hospital is nothing more than a prop. Bring in some new doctors and get rid of Dr Tapeworm and Portia. Also bring back some legacy characters (Spencer’s, Webbers, etc.)

They have been doing hospital stories – but not the ones a majority want to see…
Finn & Elizabeth – neither time working
Willow’s cancer – not compelling
Gregory’s ALS – only Tracy makes it palatable
Felicia as a patient advocate
TJ/Molly’s fertility issues

Hopefully they’ll write Alexis off. Although I highly doubt it since I read that she’s great friends with one of the new writers oh my goodness. Get ready for double the screen time for Alexis.

Why would they write her off? She’s a Cassadine with 3 kids on the canvas?

Oh, I hope there’s more for Alexis to do. I don’t worry about what actors think and do off camera. All I care about is Alexis is an interesting and complicated woman, and Nancy Lee Grahn is one of the best actors on the show.

I respectfully disagree. I think other far better actors are on the show. She just appears to be playing herself in my opinion. The best actors who do great portrayals in real life nothing like their characters i.e. Jeff Kober Alley Mills Jon Lindstorms Ryan portrayal etc. But we can agree to disagree. I respect your opinion.

GH’s Kin Shriner Remembers Jackie Zeman on the One-Year Anniversary of Her Passing

Today on May 9th, marked the one-year anniversary of the death of Jackie Zeman, who for 45 years played the iconic nurse Bobbie Spencer on General Hospital.

Jackie passed away at 70-years-old from cancer and leaves behind her two daughters, Cassidy and Lacey, and all of her enduring fans, and of course. her GH co-stars and dear friends.

Perhaps, her dearest friend was Jackie’s longtime co-star Kin Shriner (Scott) where for years they shared stories on-screen as Bobbie and Scott, and off-screen developed and cultivated an unbreakable bond.

Photo: ABC

Michael Fairman TV spoke exclusively to Kin Shriner to get his thoughts and his memories of Jackie on what is for him and many, a sad and heartbreaking day.

Kin expressed: “It does not seem like a year. I think of Jackie every day and every day. I am approached often as an ambassador to the old days. Every day somebody talks about the heyday of General Hospital bringing up Bobby, Scotty, Luke, and Laura. And it always saddens me because I know that Jackie would still want to know that the fans still love that period of time and we miss her, and I miss that. I don’t get to come in and have a scene with her again, ever. So, it’s all sad and I can’t believe that it’s a year.

When asked what does he think Jackie’s legacy is, now reflecting on her passing a year later, Kin shared, “Her legacy is that It she changed daytime television in the seventies. She was the catalyst that came into General Hospital and created Bobbie Spencer from the wrong side of the tracks, the fiery firecracker woman that she was.”

Photo: ABC

Shriner added on their deep connection, “Jackie brought it all to the screen and she brought it to real life. She raised two great kids, and was a spitfire of a woman and someone that I enjoyed being around from the day we met to the day she died, I was in her life, and she was in my life. We went through a lot together, you know, ups and downs, and it’s just sad that she’s not here anymore.”

Share your thoughts to Kin’s words on the loss of Jackie Zeman via the comment section below, and also your thoughts that is has already been a year since we lost this daytime icon.

Coming up, make sure to watch Kin and many other stars from the soaps on the Michael Fairman Channel’s very special livestream event Daytime Stands Up  in conjunction with The Locher Room and Stand Up To Cancer on Thursday May 16th from 8 pm ET/5 pm PT.
