Sarah Michelle Gellar confirms return to AMC

Pine Valley is about to get a visit from a vampire slayer. Emmy winner Sarah Michelle Gellar is returning to All My Children in September. Gellar, who has appeared in numerous films since leave leaving AMC in 1995, remains a fan of the show.

Another All My Children vet is headed home to Pine Valley. Emmy winner Sarah Michelle Gellar (ex-Kendall Hart) will make a special appearance on the show before it ends its run on ABC in September.

"I can officially confirm that I will be doing a guest spot on All My Children," Gellar announced at the Television Critics Association's summer press tour. "When I heard that the show was cancelled I didn't understand. It just doesn't make sense to me. So, I called Judy Wilson, who is the casting director and has been since I was there, and I said I wanted to do something."

That something, though, will not include playing the role that earned her an Outstanding Younger Actress trophy at the 1995 Daytime Emmys.

"I was very specific -- I don't want to be Kendall. That's Alicia's role," Gellar clarified.

Gellar joined All My Children in 1993 as Kendall Hart, the daughter Erica Kane had given up for adoption. She left the show in 1995 to pursue other opportunities -- which eventually led her to a seven-year-run on Buffy: The Vampire Slayer and numerous film roles. AMC recast the role of Kendall in 2002 with then-newcomer Alicia Minshew.

Since leaving All My Children, Gellar has remained a fan of the show, often talking about the latest Pine Valley happenings with her friend and former co-star Eva LaRue (Maria Santos).

"I just wanted to be a part of it," Gellar added. "I have no idea what I'm going to do -- so we can take suggestions -- but I will be doing one day. I'm excited."

In a subsequent interview with Soap Opera Digest, Gellar quipped, "I said I would be a patron in a bar, I don't care. I can come down from the attic with Bobby Martin; I can be his ski bunny wife."

Gellar will make her one-day AMC return on September 21, appearing in scenes with Maria.

Gellar will return to television screens this fall in the new drama series, Ringer. Ringer premieres on Tuesday, September 13 on the CW.
