If you're a Millennial, then you likely spent way to much time on Myspace back when the site was the dominant force in social media. We discovered music there, stressed way too much about our Top 8, and even followed early Internet figures, like Tila Tequila.

Tom Anderson was the founder of the site and everyone's first friend, and he was a recognizable face thanks to the site's success. Instead of sticking around and running it into the ground, Tom Anderson sold off Myspace, and largely retreated from the spotlight.

So, what has Tom Anderson been up to since selling off Myspace all those years ago? Let's see what he has been up to, and how he might have thrown his hat in the ring to run another popular social media platform!

Tom Anderson Has Been Living The Good Life Since Selling Myspace, And Has Traveled And Invested

Myspace paved the way for more than just other platform starters living the good life.

Tom Anderson, the co-founder of the pioneering social media platform Myspace, made headlines in 2005 when he sold the company for a whopping $580 million. Since then, Anderson's life has taken an intriguing turn, leading him on a path far from the world of social networking to trekking the globe.

Following the sale of Myspace, Anderson didn't retreat into obscurity. Contrary to the expectations of many who wondered what the face of Myspace would do next, he chose a life less ordinary. According to Distractify, he embarked on a journey as a traveler of the world.

"From the looks of his IG account, it appears that a lot of his time since selling MySpace has been spent on capturing utterly breathtaking images and videos while he surfs and travels the globe," the site writes.

Hello Magazine also reports that he has ventured into travel photography, documenting his experiences across the globe. His Instagram feed has become a canvas of breathtaking landscapes, offering his followers a glimpse into the life he has chosen post-Myspace. Needless to say, those in the know were blown away by the images that Anderson was able to capture on his travels.

In an interview, Anderson spoke about his love of photography.

"I wasn’t taking photography all that seriously, I just wanted to document a wild scene. But when I loaded the photos onto my computer, I was hooked. I knew I wanted to capture more scenes around the world," he said.

Tom also happens to be an investor, and Distractify shows that he is "an investor in both SpaceX and CRISPR."

Of course, the deal to sell Myspace itself is still a major talking point for people, as it was both a brilliant stroke of foresight for Anderson, and a lucrative deal that saw him strike while the iron was still hot.

"The platform’s need for expansion capital led to securing $15.3 million from VantagePoint, followed by an additional $15.5 million from Redpoint. This influx of funds propelled Myspace’s growth until 2005 when Anderson and DeWolfe sold the company and its parent Intermix to News Corp. for $580 million," Yahoo reports.

Social media has shifted quite a bit since Anderson ditched Myspace for a fortune, and in 2022, it looked like Anderson could be headed back to his old haunts.

Anderson Commented On Possibly Running Twitter In 2022

In 2022, Anderson nearly broke the internet when he seemingly threw hit hat in the ring to run Twitter.

"I will resign as CEO as soon as I find someone foolish enough to take the job! After that, I will just run the software & servers teams," Elon Musk tweeted.

Little did he know that Anderson was paying attention, and was ready for a response.

"Depends who you get to run it!," Anderson said.

After a follow-up tweet showed potential interest in Anderson taking the gig, nothing actually came of it. Millenials all had their hopes dashed, and Anderson was back to business as usual.

In more positive news, a Myspace documentary was announced last year, per Distractify.

"It was an amazing time — before our phones took over our lives, the internet was fun, not a responsibility," he added. "Myspace was a party you could only join by sitting at a computer and I’m very excited to tell the origin story of who we have become through social media. I’ve already put together my Myspace playlist of bangers," said director Tommy Avallone.
