When Danny, played by Jude Law, was a boy of about eight years he helped his father deliver a baby girl into this world. He was so affected by it that he declared that he was going to marry the baby girl, named Anna, when he grew up. The woman in the throes of childbirth, played by Brenda Blethyn, was outstanding. Likewise, on her deathbed, she also commands your attention.
Danny, as an adult, secured a position as a delivery man for a bakery, and he delivered a cake to the Swan house. As he cycled down the street, he was injured by Anna's boyfriend who inadvertently knocked Danny off his bicycle. Danny was brought into the Swan house and Grace, Anna's mother, eventually recognized him. From there on, he became a friend of the family. He befriended Nina, Anna's blind sister, and took to reading to her. He also took her to a raucous night club one night where she met Jesus who taught Nina how to dance. Nina and Jesus fell in love and Jesus taught Nina many things, one of which was to ride a bike, which made Nina happier than anything she ever experienced in her life. Nina who was always fearful, soon became a relaxed, contented woman because of Jesus.
Danny was deeply in love with Anna, and she with him. However, she was engaged to another. And Anna decided she was going to marry her fiance much to Danny's dismay. Danny then decided to leave.
Before Danny left, he created a beautiful plaque with mosaic tiles, for the Swan family. It was a beautiful mosaic of a huge swan.
The cast in this film is excellent. Jude Law put in an outstanding performance. Gretchen Mol as Anna is excellent. Jennifer Tilly as Nina is convincing as a blind woman.
This film is well worth the watch.

There are true gems in Amazon movie listings. This movie is one of them. Yes, it is a happy-end movie (don’t we need those, especially now days); yes, it is about love and fate, or so it seems; and yes, it’s at times a bit overboard (child hands uncurling the biblical cord, a boy friend is trying to kill Danny for stopping dancing with his girl-friend and so on) but not insanely so. However, the story line gives you twists and turns, which are hard to predict, and it keeps your attention. There are great dialogs, untraveled lines and subplots, and very, very enjoyable performances. Great cast.
Just only a couple of difficult-to-believe moments there: Danny’s pledge of not falling in love ever again (I’m sure it was director’s idea; Jude is too of a fine actor for that misstep); then Grace moving around with almost a 9-month old baby in her belly as if it were a pillow tucked in (which, of course, it was), and the dying scene in which she seems to have a bit too much strength for a woman just moments away from death.
Still, those do not diminish the overall endearing impact of the movie.

This is a very charming and heartfelt movie that definetely leaves a long-lasting impression on it's viewer. It was, however, a movie that I had never heard a thing about. It has a variety of comedy, romance and drama. It is a very touching movie about the ties between family, the love between people and the reality that love exists in the world today. This movie has a very limited use of profanity and focuses more upon the facts of life. In actuality, these situations do take place!!! I wish I would have come across this movie years ago. It was released in 1997 and I've just recently watched it for the first time yesterday. I must also note that this is a gem of a movie that MGM needs to release to DVD to give it the treatment that it rightfully deserves!!! Anna is portayed by Gretchen Mol, a very talented and beautiful actress. She truly lights up the screen!!! If you enjoy her in this film, try to see her in Just Looking also, because it is very good.
I can do nothing but praise this movie for it's charm and it's wit and also for it's life-like realism!!!!!
See this movie if you haven't already-especially if you like romantic love stories!!!!!

Too many plot holes, jumped scenes, and moments of ..but wait... huh? Jude and brenda blythen are adorable but the lead actress was just poorly casted. Jennifer tilly acted as well as she can I guess... best seeing blind person ever. Like daredevil... if you have nothing else to do, sure but the are 100 other movies that got the feel good romance better than this. Or, watch the real anna karenina film.... ...the better option

So okay, I just love a sweet sappy love story and this one fits the bill nicely. Jude Law (Danny) & Gretchen Mol (Anna) meet when as a young boy, he helps deliver her from her mother's womb on Thanksgiving. Flash forward 25 years later and they coincidentaly meet again after he gets lost trying to find a house in her neighborhood. The cast in the movie are some of the most enjoyable to watch: Martha Plimpton, Brenda Blethyn, Jeremy Piven (his wife in the movie, Jane Adams is a mentally unstable goofball and has some of the most fun scenes to watch.) Of course it has the predictable ending as most will have the movie figured out long before it ends, but it's a nice escape from reality for a few hours. How magical the story was.

Jude Laws schlechtester Film?
Reviewed in Germany on March 9, 2017
Jude Law, anno 1997 in seinem ersten Karriere-Hoch, hält "Music From Another Room" für seinen schlechtesten Film.

Arrived quickly. A quirky film which I did quite like but I was watching it when very tired so I may have drifted off in places, but I will watch it again to give it a fairer trial!
