If religious artwork is your thing, then this museum will be your heaven. Otherwise, it's not worth the 20Bs. You follow a designated route through the museum to view all of the open galleries. Unfortunately, none of the other temporary galleries were open when I was there, and I was in and out in less than an hour. For those interested, descriptions are only in Spanish. Maybe if there is a temporary exhibition that piques your interest (or you're an aforementioned devotee of religious iconography), it may be worth the price of admission. Otherwise, I wouldn't recommend visiting.

The collections rotate. I visited in September 2019 and the works of Ines Cordova and Gil Imana were on exhibit. They work in various media and their works tell as story. One of the stories in their love story as they are a married and well known Artists. Some of the explanations of the work are in English, some are self explanatory. By the quality of this exhibit I imagine other collections are also well presented.

The museum is small but delightful. Most of the art is a mix of Bolivia’s history, coca culture and their recent indigenous revolution. Just outside the museum there are plenty of vendors that sell food, souvenirs and a variety of merchandise (electronics, clothes, etc). There is a small entrance fee but there are days when it is free, usually weekends.

You can buy a ticket to visit 3 museas in La Paz: San Fransico monastery, Museo de Etnografia y Folklore and Museo Nacional de Arte. Do not buy such a ticket, because the Museo Nacional de Arte is closed for the moment, due to big renovationworks!!

For only BS20, this is a great pace to visit and experience historical and modern Bolivian art, as well as see a very impressive building. The galleries are well laid out, but the more modern exhibits are a bit baffling. The central courtyard is very impressive and is the only part of the building where photography is permitted. As of August 2017, much of the museum is closed for renovation, but it's still worth time seeing. It's closed on Sunday afternoons and all day Monday.

Patience finally paid off as the National Museum of Art opened its doors after a lengthy renovation. This is a good museum, which you will enjoy more if you take a tour. I went because I was determined to see the sculpture of 20c Bolivian artist Marina Nuñez del Prado. That alone was worth the visit. This is just off Plaza Murillo, so easy to combine with a central gathering place in La Paz.

We never got inside the museum because they insist on seeing some sort of photo identity. They asked for a passport or driving licence.

This was a hidden gem. Close to Plaza Murillo, the courtyard is awesome. Photograghs and sculptures were my favorites. Nice little shop too.

The museum was small, but for the low price of entry it was worth paying just to see the courtyard - a great example of colonial architecture. There were several floors of religious art, as well as some more modern pieces by Bolivian artists.

This small museum gave us the opportunity to understand how the national identity of the indigenous bolivien was reborn /expressed in paintings. We recommend a visit to travellers who wish to go deeper in the original bolivien culture.
