- RonSavannah, Georgia898 contributionsLarge three part museumThis museum consists of three parts - small jndoor area after the entrance, large outdoor excavation area and several level building. It took us couple of hours to see everything. Some English, but mostly Spanish only.Visited May 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten May 19, 2023
- JenMWS12 contributionsGood museum in historical centralGood anthropology / historical museum. If you’re going in the summer, go early because it is sweltering walking around the ruins part outside. This is right in the heart of the historical district - lots of walking nearby with very little shade.Visited May 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten May 25, 2023

The location has ruins and a museum that takes a few hours. If you like history and ruins, you must see.Visited July 2023Traveled with familyWritten July 17, 2023
- David MarinoCalifornia565 contributionsAMAZING....missing this is like missing The Forum if you go to Rome!!!I can only say "head bending." This is a must see top three in Mexico City. The excavation and preservation of the site is world class, particularly that the Spanish tore it down! The relics that are on display in the museum structure at the back are not to be missed. It's a 4 story structure, and you don't really get a good sense on the ground floor that it's worth going in, but don't miss it! Every floor gets better, and you can spend an hour here and you will see critical findings that you don't see at the Anthropology Museum. I was stunned by how affordable the museum is and how few people were there, as the entrance is obscure as it's underground at the back right corner of the cathedral, and not particularly well marked. However, the museum is NOT the little underground area where the tickets are sold, but the massive 4 story structure on the other side of the temple excavations.Visited September 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten September 16, 2023
- md115Potomac, Maryland449 contributionsIncredible historyFascinating history well represented in an eight room exhibit. We visited this during a City Walking tour, but there's a lot more information in the museum. It's incredible how many of the artifacts were found. Also fascinating to speculate are there more? It's an easy, intellectually stimulating visit Admission price is $90 MXN (~$6 USD).Visited November 2023Traveled with familyWritten November 15, 2023
- InaieAguas de Lindoia, SP189 contributionsA trip back in timeHistory, history, and more history. Mexico is packed with fascinating places and amazing historical sites. This temple was found while some telecommunication workers were excavating the ground. Suddenly, they found a huge stone that archeologists knew was situated in a major temple. Today, we can still see many of the objects found and some of the walls and paintings of the Temple. The Azteca built on top of existing temples, and you can see several layers of those constructions. There are still uncovered structures, buried in the heart of Mexico city and excavations are still being conducted under the city. One can only imagine what's still to be found!Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 19, 2024

Artefacts from the central city ruins and surrounding area. Wonderful collection and well displayed with most panels also in English. The ruins and this museum can be visited in a half day and tell a compelling story of Mexico’s development.

First of all, I like museums. Second of all, I enjoy learning about other cultures. With those two things mentioned, I have to say that this was probably my favorite place in Mexico City. It is very large with unique displays that are very well presented. A must visit for museum hounds.

We had visited CDMX about 2 years ago and missed this museum so we wanted to come back, we did not fail. It is amazing as you go through it you are walking an archeological site, there is also a complete museum inside and a complete different view of the cathedral. Not to be missed.

They don’t allow water. Many museums do not allow water, but they will hold it for you. These people will not do that. Mexico City is at a high altitude and you need water. I went in while my wife had to wait outside to hold the water. I found that most of the good stuff could be viewed from the terrace which you can go on for free. I recommend you pass up paying admission to go see this place unless you are really really interested in Mayan history.

We found the Templo Mayor the best of the various sites to visit in Mexico City. It was great to learn the story of how the ruins were only recently discovered and when we were there we could still see archaeologists excavating. The outdoor walk as well as the museum complemented each other well.

These ruins were below some buildings right near the Cathedral across from the Zocalo. They have been excavated and visitors can walk around on boardwalks amongst the ruins. You need to enter the museum to do this and I recommend doing that. We didn't actually go into the main museum because it was late in the day, and we were tired. But it was really worthwhile to walk around and read the descriptions of what we were seeing. Most of the signs were in both Spanish and English.

This fascinating site contains not only the large area of archaeological ruins visible from the street but a marvelous museum building containing objects found at the site. The site was a treasure trove and there are numerous pre-colonial findings of great beauty and interest well displayed. Post colonial findings while interesting are not in the same league. A little more English interpretation on the ground floor of the museum would help but in general this is a fabulous visit.

The museum offers you a close up view of the Temple Mayor with some information in English. Unfortunately, as you are not allowed to carry water with you, I had to skip a big part of exhibition which was the most interesting part for me as I couldn't stand it anymore after walking in the scorching sun. I've enjoyed the view from the balcony above the Temple Mayor, which you can enter for free, much more than the museum.

For me theTemplo Mayor of Mexico was the main place to visit between the Mexico City attractions, although the ruins are not that impressive as Teotihuacan pyramids. The museum has a lot of very interesting exhibits, excavated from different parts of the Temple. I liked those warriors relieves, and other exhibits from the House of Eagles. don't skip it, when in Mexico City!

This is a brilliant and fascinating place to visit. I have always been interested in the Aztec history and I learned so much. There is a lot to see and it took us a couple of hours to get around it all. There are English signs telling you about the architecture. You can see a lot of this temple for free by walking around it at street level but I would say to get up close and read all about it was totally worth the ticket (80 pesos)

Is there a locker or storage area where to leave our large backpacks if we get there at opening time directly from airport?

Yes. In fact, you'll have to check your larger bags anyway as they aren't allowed in. They will give you a claim number and you'll pick them up after.
