Historical Information

Tahoma National Cemetery was established Nov. 11, 1993, and opened for interments on Oct. 1, 1997. The cemetery was dedicated on Sept. 26, 1997. Phase II was completed in March 2006. The $6 million project includes over 12,000 new columbarium niches, more than 5,000 pre-placed crypts, road improvements, new signage, a third committal shelter and a third funeral cortege lane at the Public Information Center.

Tahoma has a Memorial walkway containing 18 memorials that commemorate soldiers of various 20th century wars, donated by various service organizations. At the northeast corner of the walkway is the POW-MIA flag.

Driving Directions

Take Interstate 5 north through Tacoma to WA 18 east. Proceed on WA 18 to WA 167 (the Valley Freeway). Head north on the Valley Freeway to Kent, WA. Exit the freeway at WA 516 (W Willis St.) and proceed east until WA 516 makes a left turn and heads north at Central Ave. S. Proceed north to E James St. and turn right. E James St. turns into S 24th St. just past 94th Ave. Continue on S. 24th St towards Maple Valley. Once you pass 180th Ave SE the Tahoma National Cemetery will be on your left.
