‘What About Bob?’
Most people accidentally leave something at home when rushing out for a vacation, but in the 1991 hit comedy What About Bob?, psychotherapist Leo Marvin accidentally brings something with him: a patient. Played by Bill Murray, Bob Wiley is an OCD neurotic whose latest obsession – unfortunately for Dr. Marvin (Richard Dreyfuss) – is his therapist. Naturally, then, when the doctor leaves for a summer family getaway, Bob decides to follow him. Despite the inherent creepiness of the gesture, Bob somehow ends up charming Dr. Marvin’s family into liking him (well, that is, except for Dr. Marvin himself). Though I’ve seen this classic movie many times, I recently figured out that Murray and Dreyfuss didn’t get along while on set, which urged me to go back and watch it again. I suggest you do the same, because – armed with that knowledge – the already funny interactions between their characters are that much more hilarious.
