The Tender Bar trailer serves up a look at George Clooney’s next directorial effort

Wow! I wasn’t expecting George Clooney’s The Tender Bar trailer to pour me a cold glass of warm fuzzies, but here we are. Directed by George Clooney and starring Ben Affleck, Tye Sheridan, Christopher Lloyd, Lily Rabe, and introducing Daniel Ranieri, The Tender Bar chronicles the journey of a young man who works hard to make his family proud.

Per Amazon’s official description, The Tender Bar tells the story of J.R. (Sheridan), a fatherless boy growing up in the glow of a bar where the bartender, his Uncle Charlie (Affleck), is the sharpest and most colorful of an assortment of quirky and demonstrative father figures. As the boy’s determined mother (Rabe) struggles to provide her son with opportunities denied to her — and leave the dilapidated home of her outrageous if begrudgingly supportive father (Christopher Lloyd) — J.R. begins to gamely, if not always gracefully, pursue his romantic and professional dreams — with one foot persistently placed in Uncle Charlie’s bar.

Based on the best-selling memoir of the same name by J.R. Moehringer, The Tender Bar opens its doors in theaters nationwide on December 22, 2021, and globally on Amazon Prime Video on January 7, 2022.

Directed by George Clooney and based on a script written by William Monahan, The Tender Bar trailer brings me back to my childhood. You see, I spent a fair amount of my younger years in a bar called DEKS in Long Island, New York. The bar closed in 2019, but back in the day, it was a place to play arcade games like Gunsmoke, Beer Tapper, Funhouse pinball, and of course, billiards. I used to down Shirley Temples like they were going out of style while hanging out there, and the food wasn’t half bad either. I can’t help but identify with Sheridan’s character in this trailer, even if it’s just a little bit.

Amazon Prime Video will release The Tender Bar in select Los Angeles and New York theaters on December 17, 2021. The film will then be served up in theaters nationwide on December 22 and will come to Amazon Prime Video globally on January 7, 2022.

In addition to the new trailer, Amazon Prime Video also dropped a poster for the upcoming film, which you can check out for yourself below:
