Japanese fast-food restaurant chain MOS Burger has partnered with ramen maker Nissin to open the Mos Chicken Ramen Restaurant in Tokyo for a limited time period, Sora News 24 has reported.
Mos Chicken Ramen Restaurant will be a pop-up eatery at the Mos Burger Ebisu Higashi branch in downtown Tokyo featuring only Mos chicken ramen - a bowl of Nissin chicken ramen with a piece of Mos chicken as its topping, according to the report.
It will be open for only two days on 23 November and 24 November 2023 from 4pm until 8pm, and will serve just 200 bowls per day completely free of charge.
The two companies also planning to add Mos Burger’s chilli dip sauce to the broth to make it spicier.
According to a recent survey by the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Japanese restaurant chains have increased their presence across the globe by 20% since 2021.
The number of Japanese restaurants in overseas markets has tripled since 2013, reaching around 187,000 in 2023.
The ministry attributes this surge to the rising number of anime fans in Central and South America, as well as the increase in the popularity of anime shows such as One Piece and Demon Slayer.
Asia and the European markets witnessed a growth of 20% in 2021, reaching 122,000 and 16,400 restaurants respectively.
The increase in Japanese restaurant footprint across the globe is expected to spur an increase in Japan’s agriculture and seafood exports.
In August 2023, Canada-based Japanese restaurant chain Ramen Arashi announced the opening of its new outlet in Kelowna, British Columbia.
It will be the brand’s fourth site in the country, with the other three located in Banff and in Canmore, Alberta, and in Victoria, British Columbia.
