MOONEY GROVE PARK

Mooney Grove Park offers family fun under a canopy of Oak Trees. The Tulare County Museum has one of the largest native American woven basket displays, showcasing the artistry of the local tribal community.

Amenities:

What would Visalia be without oak trees? The city has made a conscious effort, backed by the force of law, to preserve these magnificent giants. You can bask in their beauty at Mooney Grove Park.

In 1909, Hugh Mooney worried that the oak woodlands that dotted the Valley were disappearing. He offered 100 acres of his ranch to the County of Tulare, stipulating the land should be maintained as a public park for the enjoyment of everyone. He further held that none of the trees should be cut unless they were diseased or dying.

Mooney also left $5,000 toward building the county museum, now located in the park. A statue depicting Mooney and his favorite hunting dog was dedicated to his memory in June 2006 by the Tulare County Historical Society. It is located on the front side of the park, near the famed End of the Trail statue.

The James Earle Fraser work, "The End of the Trail," one of his most iconic pieces, is also located in Mooney Grove Park. The current statue on display is a bronze replica, which replaced the original work when it was moved to the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma. You will find the statue on display near the front of the park.

Mooney Groves picnic areas, equipped with arbors, seating and barbecue facilities, beckon in the shade of the large oak canopies throughout the park. A main feature is the parks lagoon, home to friendly geese and ducks and is open to fishing. Mooney Grove Park is home to the 18-hole/18-basket Perry Outback Disc Golf Course.  Grab friends and family and head out to Mooney Grove Park.
