This classic Monty Python comedy, directed by Pythons Terry Gilliam and Terry Jones, is a hilarious send-up of the grim circumstances of the Middle Ages as told through the story of King Arthur and framed by a modern-day murder investigation. When the mythical king of the Britons leads his knights on a quest for the Holy Grail, they face a wide array of horrors, including a persistent Black Knight, a three-headed giant, a cadre of shrubbery-challenged knights, the perilous Castle Anthrax, a killer rabbit, a house of virgins, and a handful of rude Frenchmen. In addition to the set pieces, the film also includes the same kind of surreal animation that Gilliam contributed to the television series. Throughout the irreverent adventures, the Python crew eschews realism in favor of anachronistic social satire, a recipe it later returned to in the 1979 biblical farce MONTY PYTHON'S LIFE OF BRIAN. Melding the ridiculous with the sublime, the film quickly inspired a cult following, generated a host of quotes, and even inspired a computer game 20 years after its release. The numerous songs and hysterical vignettes are sidesplittingly unforgettable.

Fun to look back at a great comedy group
Monty Python is an acquired taste, to be sure. Monty Python and the Holy Grail demonstrated a lot of their funniest moments. If you were/are a fan of this very talented group of people, you definitely will enjoy this movie. One of their best.

Sony gives us a perfect transfer with not a hint of noise reduction.
Nothing needs to be said about this film. We all know it is one of the greatest comedies ever filmed. What needs to be said is that this Blu-Ray release is nearly perfect. The only flaw is that the original mono sound is presented as compressed Dolby digital instead of uncompressed PCM. The sound is okay, but it could have been fuller and richer. Avoid the remix, which replaces Palin's narration with a brand new recording that simply doesn't cut it. Now everything else is top notch. Picture quality is astonishing. Absolute no evidence of grain reduction so the image is a brilliant representation of the 35mm print I saw in a theater (during the re-release). Sony could have gone for the noise reduced smooth look, but that would have ruined detail. Nope, Sony did right by this film and it is ... Nothing needs to be said about this film. Disappointing at best
While you may be OCD like me and demand to have your entire movie collection on the same media (blu ray being the mode of my choice), this one's just simply not worth it. Not only is this conversion not worthy but rather not even worthy of DVD. The view and picture so grainy, the only thing missing from this VHS rip-off is the background buzzing and occasional lines across the screen while the tracking is adjusting. While the film is still funny as always, the low grade amateur quality actually detracts from the overall enjoyment of a classic flick.
