Nell Minow AWFJ.org Jessica Chastain shows us both her resolve and her vulnerability and the scene near the end with Kevin Costner as Bloom's father is one of the best of the year. Nov 4, 2021 Full Review Jonathan Romney Film Comment Magazine Overall, the film comes across as robustly offering testimony for its subject rather than really offering a portrait; it rather presents itself as a character witness for a woman of more probity and principle than her chosen career would suggest. Mar 2, 2018 Full Review Wenlei Ma News.com.au Molly's Game is an entertaining and confident debut for Aaron Sorkin, even if it's definitely too long. Rated: 3/5 Feb 5, 2018 Full Review Colin Biggs Vague Visages For a film that prides itself on being based on a true story, Molly's Game often relies on moments that are too coincidental, too easy. Yet, there's nothing here to suggest that Sorkin won't eventually figure things out behind the camera. Dec 1, 2023 Full Review Vadim Rizov Filmmaker Magazine This is A-OK crowdpleasing fare: for uncomplicated entertainment, I doubt I’ll do better while here. Jan 11, 2023 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies It’s one part invigorating character study and one part stunning expose. It features a trifecta of top-notch performances from Elba, Costner, and especially Chastain. Rated: 4.5/5 Aug 24, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews

Dave S Few screenwriters are as adept in creating wildly entertaining real-life characters studies as effectively as Aaron Sorkin. With an oeuvre that includes such movies as The Social Network, Moneyball, and Charlie Wilson’s War, Molly’s Game (also directed by Sorkin) can be added to his cinematic canon. Molly Bloom (Jessica Chastain), a former Olympic-caliber skier whose career was cut short by injury, amasses her fortune by hosting high-stakes poker games in Los Angeles and New York, constantly teetering on the edge of legality. While it may not be perfect (the editing can be seizure-inducing early on in the movie and those without a working knowledge of poker will probably be confused by much of the dialogue and game scenarios), it works on the strength of the performances (Chastain is excellent, as are Michael Cera, Idris Elba, and Jeremy Strong in supporting roles) and Sorkin’s insightful script. Despite clocking in a well over two hours, it never feels too long. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/07/24 Full Review Donovan B Jessica Chastain looks fantastic in this movie, makes up for her slightly lacking acting skills. Everyone else is great, and it's an entertaining watch. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/21/24 Full Review Alec C If you want to play a round with Molly Bloom, you need to go all in! Skiing prodigy Molly's career on the slopes ends with a foot injury, only for her to bounce back with a high stakes poker game with some wealthy influencers, only for her to be put on trial and only her defense attorney to rely on. Aaron Sorkin's true crime story of an influential figure that manages to shock and amaze people to this day with Jessica Chastain's witty and impassioned performance! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/12/24 Full Review Connor S A movie that leaves me questioning who I was trying to be manipulated into feeling bad for? Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 04/11/24 Full Review Audience Member One of my favorite movies. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/10/24 Full Review Caleb J Jessica Chastain is at the top of her game (pun intended) in this. My favorite performance of her. Not only a great biopic, but a great poker film.
