About Federica Mogherini

Mogherini, the former Italian minister of foreign affairs, was instrumental in the 2015 Iran nuclear deal that stopped Iran on its path to acquiring a nuclear weapon. Now she's become an outspoken critic of President Donald Trump's attempts to scuttle the deal, most recently by refusing to certify it. She's also trying to move the European Union into a more meaningful, global leadership role. This year, she made her first official visit to India to discuss climate change and terrorism, among other matters.
