Cancelled my Fight Pass subscription a couple hours ago, just received something interesting in response from UFC Support

So per the suggestions here, I cancelled my Fight Pass subscription and emailed support@ufc.tv (and info@ufc.com) to explain why I was cancelling. I immediately received an automated reply "confirming my support request" (totally normal for something like this), and just now I received a more interesting follow-up message. Here's a screenshot.

Note the "status" line (which I highlighted in yellow) that specifies "cutman stitch cxl reqs" as the tag for my ticket. Not sure what "cxl reqs" means (perhaps "cancellation requests?"), but the fact that they're tagging the issue with "cutman stitch" is pretty good evidence that they're actually noting how many cancellations this latest BS is causing.

Hope you guys find this interesting too.

EDIT: Thanks for the awesome show of support for this post! I'm glad my little discovery struck a chord for you guys too - hopefully the UFC will notice how negatively their recent decisions are being viewed by their core fans, and maybe we'll see some course-corrections from them.

I wish i had UFC fight pass just so I can cancel

[deleted]
[deleted]

You can subscribe to their 7 day trial and cancel it.

Hell why not

[deleted]
[deleted]

Just make sure you don't forget to cancel it or they will charge you for the whole year.

credit card companies have an option where you can limit such transactions for things like this. i forgot what it's exactly called, but I know it exists.

edit: nevermind. i'm thinking of shopsafe with BofA

There's this cool thing where I never have money that works out about the same.

Yup. When I signed up for Fight Pass the sign up page said that I would get a 7 day trial and that afterwards I would get billed at $9.99 a month. I tried it for a week and liked it so I decided to try it for another month and didn't cancel my subscription. Of course a week later I found out that they billed me for the entire year at once and when I e-mailed them to explain that I thought I would only be getting billed for a month at a time they refused to help. I had to go through my credit card and request a chargeback. I know it was my fault for not reading the fine print but still... I thought the UFC was supposed to be a legitimate company, not some seedy Eastern European porn site.

Lol, I tried to cancel mine tonight and found it was already cancelled. Honestly, fight pass has really sucked in Canada since the black outs started. It isn't worth the money. Wish I could have cancelled it in protest. Truth is fight pass sucks in black out areas.

u/YourSuperBro avatar

you need to stop drinking then

u/rahtin avatar

I had no idea they were doing that. Thanks for saving me the money. I don't have cable and was going to get Fight Pass just for the regular TV events.

More replies

I got lucky-ish and forgot to cancel mine last month, so I was going to cancel anyway but fuck them now.

Just send an email to support@ufc.tv and info@ufc.com with the subject UFC.TV Fight Pass Subscription Cancellation :)

u/thedrinkableone avatar

If everyone was like you they would never have gotten the mo9ney in the first place which is better.

For reference if anyone is interested, here's the content of the email I sent to both support@ufc.tv and info@ufc.com:

Hi UFC folks,

I've been a UFC fan for 12+ years, I buy a lot of PPV events per year (usually via the UFC app on my Apple TV and/or through my Xfinity account), and I've been a Fight Pass subscriber since right around the launch of the service. Sadly, I'm cancelling my Fight Pass membership and will not purchase any upcoming PPV events, because I'm very unhappy with the way the UFC has handled the Reebok deal for fighters and support people.

I love this sport, and I love what the UFC has built. As a die-hard fan of both MMA and the UFC, I hope that this gesture from me helps convey just how sad and dismayed I am to see the recent negative changes the UFC has made. Punishing fighters and support personnel (like 'Stitch' Duran) for reacting understandably to the sudden and arbitrary loss of income that comes with the loss of sponsors other than Reebok is simply wrong, and should be counter to everything the UFC stands for. Improve your pay for fighters, offer comprehensive year-round medical care for fighters (including those who retire due to injury), and allow people to select their own sponsors - these are concrete steps you can take to immediately reverse this flood of negativity from your fighters and fans alike.

I sincerely look forward to renewing my Fight Pass membership and purchasing future PPV events once these issues have been resolved to the benefit of fighters and support personnel alike.

With many best wishes,

<me>

u/Snatchl avatar

Very well said. I cancelled already earlier this month, but I would copy/paste this, as it sums up my feelings 100%.

I am a huge Ronda fan, but I won't be buying her next PPV, or any others until they address this to my satisfaction.

I will continue to follow the sport of MMA, but ZUFFA can now count on $0 from me.

Just wait for the Ronda full fight gif.

You should continue to watch those leagues that don't pay much to their fighters, have no steroid testing and don't pay medical bills.

That'll show 'em!

You're not wrong. In fact, I'm so conflicted about the UFC right now.

They screw over Stitch for absolutely no reason (I mean, all he did was honesty answer questions about how the sponsorship deal affects the cutmen), they drastically decrease the potential revenue streams of fighters without comparable compensation, they've enforced draconian rules on what fighters and staff can say and wear, and they are hesitant to enforce long term punishment on those who really do deserve to have their ties to the organization severed (read: Jon Jones).

On the other hand, the UFC has taken massive strides in the areas of fighter safety and fairness. Better drug testing (I have a feeling there are more suspensions to come), medical insurance outside the cage, better talent development (the women's divisions and flyweights are finally starting to bring in some great fresh competition), and the continuing expansion into new markets are all great achievements that are cause for positive recognition.

So... To condemn or to commend... that is the question!

more replies More replies
u/Ymenk avatar

Nobody's saying it's better elsewhere. The UFC keeps screaming on rooftops how they're the best in the world, the top organization, breaking sales records and all that.

Well, if you're the best and you're gonna talk shit about your competition then we'll hold you up to the standards you decided to set for yourself.

u/1standarduser avatar

UFC pays their fighters the most.

People are unhappy about fighter pay.

They then choose not to watch UFC.

More replies
u/this1 avatar

So if someone offered me a bowl of dirt of a pile of shit you're saying I should be happy with the bowl of dirt? Fuck that, I'm walking away.

u/1standarduser avatar

not exactly.

If somebody is offering you both the dirt and the shit in your example, you are saying that you will not eat the dirt anymore because it has no taste. You don't mention that the shit is far worse, but you're still willing to pay for it.

u/this1 avatar

Bellator and WSOF are both free. So you're not paying for anything... you can follow the sport of mma without watching or paying for any league/promotion was my point. I don't have to settle for UFC simply because it's better. I'm just going to sit out.

More replies

u/rahtin avatar

They pay the fighters better proportionally. Bellator doesn't bring in nearly as much money as the Ufc, but there aren't any Bellator guys making $2500 for a Reebok sponsorship

Great catch on the support tagging.

I wrote to them last night with my reason for cancelling and got the generic response back confirming I'd cancelled. I wrote back and said I wanted to make sure they note the reason that I cancelled and not just that I did it. I received this in response:

Great letter. The only thing I disagree with is the ability to choose their own sponsor. I think the idea of creating a more "clean" product with consistent uniforms/sponsor is not a problem, and is widely accepted in other sports. The problem, in my eyes, is that they simply weren't paid enough. Yes, it is easier for the fighters due to not having to get sponsors themselves, but the UFC clearly didn't do enough research to understand how much their fighters were making and why a given fighter was making a certain amount, that goes beyond simply the number of fights they have or whether they are a champion. If the sponsor pay had been appropriate, none of this would have come about.

Walmart uses it extensively. Ever notice how there is 8.6 million registers and they always have the bare minimum open? Controlled customer dissatisfaction. They have studied extensively how long lines can get before it becomes too costly of a problem and adjust how many registers/cashiers are needed based on it.

Just enough to piss you off, not enough to make you leave.

u/Baraka_Bama avatar

As an aside it would be interesting to see how this has changed over time. I bet people are becoming more and more impatient about waiting, so I imagine that number has been adjusted over time.

More replies
u/Ohhhhhk avatar

It's just as likely that they have bots that parse common phrases so they can figure out where customer dissatisfaction lies in fight pass.

Except there isn't a "reason for canceling fight pass" field on the cancellation page. You just cancel your subscription and that is that. OP only received a response because he took it upon himself to email UFC support and tell them. And that is the address that returned his email.

u/lord_fairfax avatar

that's a pretty dystopian way of framing it.

Welcome to Capitalism. Enjoy your stay.

u/spinuch avatar

I've worked at some really shitty businesses but in my experience upper management doesn't give a shit. They aren't testing the waters. They're doing what they want until they're somehow stopped.

u/chicubs33883 avatar

Lmao. Not sure if srs.

It's cool that maybe a hundred people are "boycotting" over this but it's not going to have any real effect and it won't make any difference. Let's not get carried away and pretend Dana is going to bring Stitch back and back out of the Reebok deal. Nothing is going to change because a few fans cancelled fight pass. It's just the reality of a company this big.

u/FaustusMD avatar

I dunno, I think you're underselling the impact all this social media noise has on general interest. I mean, maybe getting talked about regardless of topic has its benefits, but their is a very dedicated following within the UFC fanbase that has essentially supported the sport through its leanest stretches by giving a reliable baseline for weaker or smaller cards. This following is highly associated with the internet-savvy fans who use sites like sherdog and r/Mma. I don't think this will directly end the UFC, but I wouldn't be surprised if they start finally acting like their fans are pissed about this shit

u/Baelorn avatar

I dunno, I think you're underselling the impact all this social media noise has on general interest.

I think you're forgetting that not everyone is agreeing with that social media noise. Even on here, arguably the place where you'll find the most UFC criticism, there are people who disagree. They just happen to be in the negatives.

When you silence everyone who disagrees with you it is easy to believe you are in the right. This sub, and the UFC, should take note of that.

More replies
u/shrekwvu avatar

Money talks. Sure the impacts of a few hundred fans cancelling subscriptions and walking away from the UFC isn't significant or threatening. But the sponsors sure as shit can throw their weight around. When the UFC's action gets #FuckReebok trending worldwide, there's going to be some discussions that Dana will have to listen to. Other sponsors may also do the same. When the fans are unhappy the sponsors are unhappy.

More replies
u/DS_9 avatar

If you want to send the UFC a message, boycott UFC 190. Money talks.

Or one step further, publicly voice out against their sponsors for supporting such an institution, it worked against FIFA quite a bit.

The UFC in comparison to FIFA is considerably small, so it would make a bigger dent to them.

Easier than that, we just need to bash one sponsor... Reebok.

Man would I love to know how many cancellation requests they've fielded over the last 24 hours. Whoever actually was responsible for pulling the trigger and firing Stitch must sweating bullets right now.

u/GracieSilva avatar
Edited

It was Dana. Stitch said that he was called and someone said:

"Dana don't want you working for the UFC anymore."

EDIT: my bad, guys. He did say THEY. I apologize.

I just watched the interview. Stitch actually said "They don't want you working for the UFC anymore."

Dana said it? In third person perspective?

Holy shit this needs more attention.

u/Baelorn avatar

I mean, what do you expect? Look at it from their perspective.

They've spent years improving their product, putting on amazing fights, implementing things like medical coverage and drug testing(and soon rehab centers) and you cancel because they fired an employee who spoke out against their biggest sponsor?

Dana's an unprofessional goof, no disputing that, but what did you want? An insincere "Sorry to see you go"? Would that have changed your mind?

[deleted]
[deleted]

Any other business would most likely issue a 'sorry to see you go' type of apology, just for PRs sake. They are a business and they should act like it and not sabotage fans that have been loyal for years. And I'd argue that the product hasn't been improved over the years. All I see are more events, more diluted PPVs with one or two solid fights and the rest average. I remember a time when PPVs were stacked and much less frequent. But that's business and it works so it is what it is.
