    I wanna start off with that I haven't used the paint, and this is just first impressions of receiving the package. The back was damaged and paint tubes were scattered a bit. Don't know if this happened during transit or if it was sent like this, but it's a bit disappointing to see. All the paint seems to be in there though, thankfully. I'll update this once I actually get the chance to use the paints.

    This is a great set for the dedicated beginner. It comes with more than enough colors for most purposes, and any missing color can be mixed using what colors there are. The brush is OK, decent enough for roughly blocking in colors on miniatures (it's not a detail brush). The Army Painter washes are fantastic and there is a good base selection included in the set. Also included is a beginner's guide to painting that is well laid out with plenty of color photographs to accompany the text.

    I had no problems with "split tips" like some folks report. In those cases I suspect it's how the paints were stored prior to shipping. There was some "leakage" under the caps on a few of mine, but nothing overly messy (easily wiped off with a tissue). The separation issues some others are experiencing are certainly there... but that's normal for paint that's been sitting around for some time (the solids will inevitably settle out of solution over time). A generous shaking of the bottles mixed them easily for me, with no need for "agitators".

    The paints go on smoothly, and 2-3 thin coats is usually good enough for even coverage (depends on the color). I use straight distilled water as a thinner and it works well with these paints.

    If you're looking for a solid value beginner's set, this is it. I can't recommend it enough. I'm very satisfied with this purchase.

    Bright colors, convenient and consistent usage through dropper bottles--what more could a miniature painter wish for? At first I was a little frustrated until I figured out that the label 'shake well' on the bottles was code for agitating the bottle like a maniac while prancing around like a VHS showing of Richard Simmons (you know you've seen your mother dance like this). Once that problem was out of the way, my path towards wonderfully painted miniatures was clearly paved.

    The variety of paints is very good, as is the quality; albeit some paints have higher pigmentation than others, which may required several thin coats to achieve a solid color. What impressed me was the price point: the ratio of quality to price is fantastic.
    While there may be specify Games Workshop paints that you want for your army, I think this set would really suit most painters' needs. As such, I do wish that this set had included more varieties of washes, rather than so many shades of green, but I'll work with it.

    *The paint is thin, so about 2 coats for a solid color. some would call this a con, but for new painters it makes it so much easier to hide mistakes.
    *I love the dripper bottles. Never going back to paints in pots.

    Cons.
    *The paints separate, I really recommend buying beads to put in the bottles.
    *The tones can be a little too thick when working on small details.
    *Dries fast. This could be a pro, but if you plan on blending you will want to use an acrylic medium

    Conclusion.
    I love this set. Great for fantasy miniatures. if you plan on using it for Syfy you may need to mix the colors a little more. For example the gold in the set is too dark for a star wars C3P0, and the tones are a little too thick for a clean R2D2.

    While yes there are many of certain colors in different or shades, the paint is very pigmented and easy to work with. Although it is a bit thick, its not a bit issue to water it down a bit. But thats my preference.
    There is alot to work with and it all combines easily together if there is a color you need.

    My only complaints:

    Too many colors with similar shades.

    Sometimes the paint gets all over inside the caps. Like the Greedy Gold color had alot of it leaked into the cap. But this only happened with a couple colors.

    Finally, I have alot of issues with the Matt White, it sometimes clogs itself up because it seems to be thicker then the rest, so when i tried to squeeze a little out, it was so clogged up that it blow the top off and waisted alot more white then I intended.
    That could've been a faulty bottle, and I still love these paints. That's why I give a 4 star.

    You get a ton of colors, and a bunch of washed (Ive been using the AP washes for a while now and have the larger cans of them, you will definitely want to get those since the dropper bottle washes will run out quick if you are using them on all your models.) Definitely a great value versus say GW paints which cost an arm and a leg, and these paints are great on models. Buy some AP or anyone elses colored primer, use the AP paints for the details, wash, and if you feel like it, highlight afterwards. Its a simple process, fairly quick, and your models come out looking really good. I have heard of some of these sets being old and maybe dried up, I didnt have that issue.

    The pigment and medium separate over time, get some small ball bearings (AP sells their own now) and drop 1 or 2 in each bottle (use some pliers) so they are easy to shake up and mix before use.

    These are awesome paints. I’ve been painting GW miniatures with Citadel paints for many years. After a hiatus from the hobby, I started getting back into it again but got sticker shock from the price of restocking all the Citadel paints I was used to using.

    I saw this boxed set for $100, and I figured that it was worth a try. I have not been sorry. These paints are very, very good.

    First, they come in drop bottles. Which means you can squirt out a tiny drop of paint if all you need is a touch up. You can’t do that with a Citadel paint pot.

    Second, with the use of flow improver fluid, these paints work great out of an airbrush.

    Third, they just flat out work. From solid colors to washes to metallics, they all work awesome.

    Lastly, for the price of 18 pots of Citadel paint, you get 50 bottles of these. That’s a chunk of change saved!

    I don’t know what else to say except that if you’re considering a more expensive paint like Citadel or if you have doubts about this set, don’t. Just buy it. You’ll love it.
