I want to make a shortcut to put on my desktop but windows decided it would rather be difficult, only allow me to pin minecraft to start or my taskbar, and then not give me the option to open file location

Windows apps shortcuts don't involve the .exe.
Option 1:
select Start > Settings > Personalization > Start > enable "Show app list in Start menu"
Once enabled, your start menu will have an app list on the left side (Picture).
Scroll down to Minecraft Launcher and drag the icon to the desktop.
Option 2:
An alternate method to create a short for new Minecraft Launcher
Press Windows key + r
Type shell:AppsFolder and hit enter
Find the new Minecraft Launcher
Right click and create shortcut
If they don't involve the .exe does that mean its no longer possible to add Minecraft as a non-steam game to my steam library? Trying to make it work with my xbox controller and thats the main method I've seen people suggest but as far as I've been able to tell I need to select the minecraftlauncher.exe to add it to my library and that doesn't seem to exist anymore.
I don't have the answer. However, it's a Windows Store App, or Appx, that you want to add to steam. That's what you need to google.

I am confused, as when i go to C:\Windos\, there is no explorer.exe that I can find. Can someone help me with this?

Haven't managed to find anything out, sorry. Best guess would be to reach out to Microsoft support.
I managed to get this working. Basically don't worry about adding minecraft to steam, just configure steam to take your controller and have it emulate keyboard and mouse.

"Don't have permission to open this file" I've tried everything and tried to give permission. Any way to override it to use a controller on Java edition?
I forgot, but you have to give yourself ownership of the WindowsApps Folder, go to Program Files, make sure hidden files are visible and open the WindowsApss properties. Click on Security->Advanced and you should see a line saying something like Owner: SYSTEM. Click on the "Change" button to the right of it and write Administrators below the 'Enter the object name to select'. Click OK, Apply, OK, Apply, OK and you can now open the folder.
I uh. Does anyone know what trusted installer is? I'm, trying to add this to the firewall but when i open the permissions, I see the owner is trusted installer?
Trusted Installer installs apps from the Windows store and Windows updates, it's the default owner because it installs these programs to that folder. Having administrators as the owner still allows that and opening the folder as long as you give yourself Full Control.

I tried the excellent advice from several users in this thread but to no avail. Steam can't run the new launcher no matter what I do. I may be a noob but the problem (for a lot of people reading this thread) is that Java MC simply does not have controller support. We deserve better than a work-around.
