      Audience Consensus

Prepare for an ambiguous ending, but along the way, this is a beautifully filmed blend of comedy and drama, brought to life by a wonderful cast playing well-written characters.

Virginia S This is a very moving story. There is lot to think about afterwards - the fear of illness, the relationship between husband and wife, the friendship with co-workers, the interference among relatives, etc. At one point when the doctor brought good news, I ended up sobbing out loud in the theater. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 06/20/21 Full Review Jason Whats the fuss anout this slow moving tv movie type pic. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 06/05/21 Full Review Eddie Srorytelling & characters are phenomenal. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/02/21 Full Review Sarah Delightful story about a family striving for a better life. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/31/21 Full Review Dr. Horace There wasn't anything not to like about the movie. It wasn't just a portrayal of an immigrant family. It wasn't just a tear-jerking family melodrama. We can all see ourselves in any character in some time in our lives, yet without demanding overly burdensome emotion. We all can relate to the story as ours with varying circumstances. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/25/21 Full Review PATRICIA Out of the ordinary beautiful family story !! Esther Zuckerman Thrillist Chung and his cinematographer Lachlan Milne photograph the landscape beautifully, and you see how both Jacob and David can be entranced by its vastness, even for all the trouble it causes. Jul 29, 2021 Full Review Mark Kermode Observer (UK) What makes this more than just another formulaic feelgood film is the grit with which Chung evokes the hardscrabble lives of his characters, balancing the dreamier elements of the drama with a naturalism that keeps it rooted in reality. Rated: 4/5 Apr 4, 2021 Full Review Tara Brady Irish Times A rare film about assimilation that can be equally cherished by both poles of the American political landscape. And everybody in between. Rated: 4/5 Apr 2, 2021 Full Review Sarah Cortinaz InSession Film Minari is incredibly tender, and woefully honest. Apr 23, 2024 Full Review Ryan McQuade InSession Film Lee Isaac Chung's look at a Korean family immigrating to Arkansas is a tantalizing experience filled with so much togetherness, hardship, and true beauty. Apr 4, 2024 Full Review Amy Smith InSession Film Lee Isaac Chung lays his heart to this project as he shares some of his personal memories through this family, and the narrative is just so compelling. I challenge anyone not to fall in love with young David, played by Alan S. Kim. Mar 1, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews
