We like to visit riverwalks when visiting cities on rivers. Unfortunately the Milwaukee riverwalk is somewhat dull. There are businesses on the riverwalk, but it seems to have been an afterthought by city officials. There are random art pieces and the bronze Fonz, but it just isn't really a destination spot in my opinion. Perhaps the fact one has to come up from the river and cross the downtown streets to continue along the river is part of the problem. I don't recommend it as a tourist visit.

Hyped as like San Antonio and it definitely is not. A concrete strip running along the river with lots of stairs is not engaging. The best part is watching the bridges raise for ship crossings but that gets old after a bit. Only 4-5 places to eat directly on the looooong walk so technically you can walk along the river but don't expect a San Antonio type stroll.

If you don't like stairs, this isn't for you. But the view is incredible of the river and the surrounding buildings of downtown Milwaukee. Be sure to see the bronze "Fonz". The bridges are very easy to access. Enjoyed it.

We started our tour of Milwaukee with a walk along the river, stopping at Mikes for a beer and pretzel. The market is only two blocks from there.

I've seen some nice Riverwalks over the years and I'd say this is in the top half, though not the best I've seen. Since I thought of Milwaukee as an industrial town and place where they brew beer I didn't think it would have any natural beauty, but it does. This is one such example. Go for a stroll with a coffee, that's' what I did. Enjoy!

We have taken the riverwalk several times from the Summerfest grounds all the way to the north end. With any larger city, there are challenges with panhandlers at olaces but we never felt intimidated and just ignored them.
Improvement noted in cleanliness and more and different businesses along the walk.
Not a must see like the riverwalk in some cities but still a nice afternoon in a good city.

During our week long stay, went there thrice & loved it esp. the bike rides (separately reviewed). The walk is good too..
parking was a problem 1st day as we were new.. parked for a fee at the discovery museum. Next time, it was free at the parks nearby... a light jacket, esp during the evenings is recommended any season.

We went for a long walk around the river in Milwaukee. We went a saw the statue of Fonzie from Happy Days and enjoyed the sunshine. Plenty of places to stop and rest or get something to eat or drink. Well set out in beautiful Milwaukee.

if the weather is fine, it's good to take a walk there, in winter, the river may form icy surface.Yet you can go in different season to taste different views

is there any free parking that's close enough to do the walk?

Yes. As it runs thru the City of Milwaukee, you may find free street parking here and there. And there is metered parking that is often free on weekends.

Hello, My family and I will be in town Thursday and Friday for NCAA basketball. We will have a couple teenagers and our 9 year old son. We plan on visiting the Riverwalk. Do you have any recommendations for us. Where to eat? Things to do or see?

If you can get to this Historic Third Ward, there are plenty of restaurant options in the area. Water Buffalo comes to mind. The Wicked Hop is fun too. Check out the public market for something to do. Walking the river walk is bound to take you by some interesting shops.

Hello.
not familiar with Milwaukee and my husband and i looking into spending a week end in Milwaukee.
not sure where to begin with sight seeing but we love to walk. what would be a recommendation to walk the Riverwalk?
open and would love to hear of suggestions.
thank you in advance.
JoAnn
You can walk the Riverwalk and downtown area, to see City Hall and other historic places of interest, also drive it at night to see the skyline and a lot of buildings are lit up, makes a nice view too. The historic Third Ward is a great place to see and its downtown. You will do a lot of walking so bring comfortable shoes.

Can you suggest a few places where I may park if going to the riverwalk, I've never been there. Thank you.

Quite a few public parking areas on the lakefront. Really ample pay meter parking in the 3d Ward itself. I personally use one of the many pay lots. $5 all day last fall. Don't know if the rates are increased for summer. Street parking is really not hard to find. I have never found parking to be a problem. Hope this helps.

We stayed @ Days Inn North which is a good mile from the Riverwalk, but we walked all over from that location.
