Michael E. Newell
Michael E. Newell is the judge of the Winston County District Court in Alabama.[1]
Education
Newell earned his B.A. from the University of Alabama and his J.D. from the Birmingham School of Law.[2]
Career
Newell was admitted to the Alabama Bar in 1997.[2] Before serving on the Winston County District Court, he practiced with the law firm of Lowe, Mobley & Lowe.
2012 election
Newell was re-elected after running unopposed in 2012.[3][4]
Noteworthy cases
Judge dismisses 220 traffic tickets
In January 2008, Judge Newell dismissed 220 traffic tickets after a scheduling conflict left him without a court to hold hearings. As a result, he dismissed all pending cases on that day's docket, with the exception of instances in which the defendant had already plead guilty and DUI cases.[5]
