Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy is heading into the final year of his contract and it's feeling unlikely that he'll get a long-term deal right now. But McCarthy recently made a noteworthy change that could help him get one - even if it's not with the Cowboys.

According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, McCarthy has hired agent Don Yee to represent him. Yee is most known for being the longtime agent for Tom Brady, but has also been wildly successful with other head coaches.

Yee's most successful negotiations have been with Jim Harbaugh and Sean Payton, who until yesterday were the two highest-paid head coaches in the league.

"Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy, headed into the last year of his contract, has hired agent Don Yee to represent him. Yee represents Jim Harbaugh, Sean Payton and Tom Brady, amongst others," Schefter wrote.

McCarthy is coming off his third straight 12-5 season with the Cowboys and his fourth straight year without leading the team to the NFC Championship Game. He's clearly capable of winning games in the regular season, but the playoffs are where the Cowboys really want to see him be a difference-maker.

If McCarthy is one-and-done in the postseason yet again, the Cowboys may not keep him regardless of how well he did in the regular season.

With Don Yee now acting as his agent, McCarthy could be preparing for a big contract at the next NFL team that chooses to interview and hire him. And with what he's done in Dallas, it would be a pleasant surprise if he didn't get another head coaching job after this.
