@K_Wester-Ebbinghaus I don't know what you mean re: Core server. Should be the same, except that running graphical admin tools won't be possible.

@RussellProfitt if this is a non physical machine, I would recommend the following. dismount the volume in VMware / Hyper-V VM. mount it to the new server (core, yes your file server should use server core for various reasons, one is to prevent local acess and permission errors when opening folders ...
