How to change langague in Excel Online?

Hi,

How do i change language in Excel Online?

The rest of my Microsoft 365 for Business is displaying the correct language (English) but once i open a document in Excel Online all menus are in Swedish and can't seem to find any relevant settings in Excel Online where i would be able to change the language.

Hi davide-PIN,

Thank you for querying in this forum.

According to your description, it seems that the other Office web applications show English, however, when you opened Excel file via Excel Online, you found that all menus are in Swedish. And you want to switch to English.

May I know if my understanding is right? If so, generally, if you set language in your Office 365, this will affect all Office web applications. Given this situation, we’d suggest use another browser to check if the same problem will occur.

At the same time, to better understand your situation and narrow down this issue, could you also provide the information below?

  1. May I know if you set different languages for Office 365 portal and SharePoint sites?
  2. You mentioned “once i open a document in Excel Online all menus are in Swedish”, may I know if all Excel files have the same problem? You can go to Office 365 portal > click Excel > New blank workbook to check if the same problem will occur.
  3. May I know where you opened those Excel files? For example, the Excel is saved in SharePoint sites or OneDrive for business.
  4. Could you provide the screenshot of Excel web application?

Best Regards,

Sukie

Hi Sukie,

You have understood the problem correctly!

I've actually been creating new blank workbooks, it should not be tied to a specific file. I've also tried chrome, edge and firefox but Excel Online is always in Swedish, it does not seem to be browser related.

I believe they are saved on OneDrive for business per default.

Below are the sites where ive checked and tried to change language, Excel Online is still in Swedish though.

Im not sure where in sharepoint i can set language as we are not using Sharepoint in our daily work.

Is there a default url (like company.sharepoint.com/region_and_langugage) you could provide where i can check that out?

Hi davide,

We appreciate that you posted back and shared the detailed information with us.

We have read your description carefully, it seems that you have tried multiple browsers and new blank workbooks, however, the same problem still persists. And it seems that you saved those files in OneDrive for business. And you have checked the language of SharePoint sites and they all shows as English.

If my understanding is right, may I know if you changed language before? If so, generally, there may have a delay when sync language to your tenant. You can wait for 24 hours to check if the same problem will occur.

At the same time, since those files have been stored in OneDrive for default, there is no need to check the language of SharePoint sites, we’d suggest you go to Office 365 portal > click OneDrive > Click the gear icon and then click "OneDrive settings" > More settings > Regional Settings > Select a different locale under Region > Locale > select English (United States), then you can open in private windows of browser to check if the same problem will occur.

Hope the suggestions above can help you.

Best Regards,

Sukie
