U.S. officials today said they have little fear that China could attack Nancy Pelosi's plane if she flies to Taiwan as Beijing doubled down on their threat to take 'firm and strong measures' if the House speaker visits the island.
If Pelosi does travel to Taiwan, which is still an uncertainty, the U.S. military would increase its movement of forces and assets in the Indo-Pacific region, officials said.
The officials declined to provide details of their plans, but said that fighter jets, ships, surveillance assets and other military systems would likely be used to provide overlapping rings of protection for her flight to Taiwan

US Attorney General Merrick Garland said he is open to prosecuting Trump for his ‘role in January 6.’
Merrick Garland was asked by NBC’s Lester Holt if indicting a former president would “tear the country apart.”
“Look, we pursue justice without fear or favor,” Merrick Garland told NBC’s Lester Holt in an interview that will air Tuesday night.
Right.“We intend to hold everyone, anyone who was criminally responsible for the events surrounding January 6, for any attempt to interfere with the lawful transfer of power from one administration to another, accountable,” Garland added. “That’s what we do.”

President Joe Biden is free to emerge from isolation after testing negative for COVID-19.
Biden felt "well enough" on Tuesday "to resume his physical exercise regime," according to White House physician Dr. Kevin O'Connor. Biden's pulse, blood pressure, respiratory rate, and temperature were "absolutely normal," in addition to his lungs being "clear," O'Connor wrote in his Tuesday note to White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre shared with reporters.
Jean-Pierre could not provide details on Tuesday regarding what physical activities Biden undertook, nor what he and his health team were doing to mitigate the risk of so-called "long COVID"

Don’t go, Boss! That’s my strong advice to President Trump as he prepares to deliver a speech in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday at his alleged “think tank,” the America First Policy Institute (AFPI). Yes, it is important for President Trump to have a well-credentialed stable of policy experts capable of both building a 2024 platform and finding solid MAGA talent to populate a new Trump Administration. But the AFPI Trojan Horse—whose leadership is now bragging about how it will staff Trump’s “shadow cabinet”—is decidedly not that.

President Joe Biden said Monday that Republicans who voted against banning assault rifles are not on the side of police in America.
Speaking virtually to attendees at the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives conference in Orlando, Florida, Biden said that Republicans who refused to ban so-called “weapons of war” are not telling the truth when they claim to support law enforcement. In particular, Biden called out Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) and Senators Marco Rubio and Rick Scott (R-FL) for refusing to support Democrats’ gun control efforts.
“Being a cop today is a hell of a lot harder than it’s ever been,” Biden said during his speech.

I recently wrote a column about why I believed Trump should not run in 2024. I was wrong. I allowed my distaste for Trump’s personality to override his virtues, which are considerable. Some people want Trump without his vices. I was among them -- until yesterday, when I watched and listened to Tom Klingenstein’s speech titled “Trump’s virtues.” It was masterful and shamed me that I did not make the distinction between Trump's character and his virtues, the former being deeply flawed, the latter being almost perfect. I need to man up in my defense of the former President's virtues.

Kamala Harris opened up a roundtable meeting Tuesday afternoon with disability advocates by announcing her name, sex, gender identity and what she was wearing. The event was to mark the 32nd anniversary of the enactment of the Americans with Disabilities Act.(Snip)Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene wrote her own parody introduction: I am Marjorie Taylor Greene. By now, you will have heard that Bruce Springsteen fans have been apoplectic over the news that tickets for his 2023 tour are in some cases going for $4,000 to $5,000. Ticketmaster, which is at least one corporation that the cultural elites do not seem to oppose, has defended the move by stating that it is part of its “dynamic system” allowing it to price “platinum” tickets on a system based on supply and demand. No need to find a scalper outside the venue. You can find one in just a few clicks. But as Bobby Olivier pointed out at NJ.com, back in 2009,

President Biden is working to name a monkeypox coordinator to confront mounting infections and calls from lawmakers and activists for a stepped-up federal response. White House officials also are deliberating whether to declare a public health emergency over the outbreak to cut red tape and improve data collection, according to the Washington Post, which first reported on the deliberations.
It is not uncommon for the White House to name a “czar” who coordinates the response to major health threats.(Snip)The U.S. has recorded 3,500 cases of monkeypox so far. Many of the infections, which feature a painful rash with lesions, have affected men who have sex with men

A new CNN poll shows a majority of Republicans would like to see a new GOP candidate as the 2024 Presidential nominee. This poll comes as former President Donald Trump may announce his decision as soon as September, and as Republicans sound the alarm. Some GOP members want the midterm election to be about the economy, the southern border, and the failed policies by the Biden administration but fear if Trump announces his run for President before the midterms, that will energize Democrats and Independents to come out in droves and vote for the Democratic candidates.
The poll question was: “Who do you think the Republican Party should nominate

Many people saw this and wondered if Biden was juiced up on Adderall. I dunno, but he looks like he’s on something. Who doesn’t blink for 17-seconds straight? That’s weird. And why was he so hyped-up and angry, too?
We also have the 20 seconds of a pre-recorded speech Joe Biden gave yesterday and things go downhill even more!

Fox News declined to air former President Donald Trump’s Tuesday speech at the America First Policy Institute (AFPI) summit, despite airing a speech by Vice President Mike Pence hours earlier.
Although the network skipped Trump’s speech, Fox News aired former Vice President Mike Pence’s speech at the Young Americas Foundation’s national student conference just hours before Trump spoke.
Trump’s speech at the AFPI summit, organized by former senior officials in his administration, marked the first time the former president had been in Washington D.C. since President Joe Biden took office in January 2021.
Fox News’s decision to skip Trump’s speech comes as Trump and Pence are drifting apart
