Michael Patrick Maurer, 51, of Point Lookout, New York passed away on Monday, June 15, 2020.

Michael was born in Brooklyn, New York on April 5, 1969 and spent most of his childhood in West Windsor, New Jersey.

He was a devoted husband and father, a loving brother to his siblings and a beloved son of the late Philip Anthony Maurer and the late Margaret Mary Eleanor Maurer.

Mike and his wife Christa were married for 27 years.

Mike had no acquaintances, only friends, good friends, best friends and lifelong friends. Once Mike met you, he never forgot your name or face. He was genuinely interested in other people and their stories.

Mike attended The Catholic University of America and graduated with his Bachelor’s degree in 1991.   He began his career as a Mutual Fund Specialist with Dean Witter, eventually becoming an Account Executive at their Corporate Headquarters in the World Trade Center. Mike joined Merrill Lynch in 1994 as a Financial Consultant, where he eventually transitioned into management. He was hired by Smith Barney in 1998 as an Assistant Branch Manager in New York City and went on to become the Regional Sales and Training Officer for New York City. In 2005 Mike was promoted to Branch Manager of the Albany, NY complex for what was now known as Morgan Stanley Smith Barney. In 2008, Mike was promoted to Managing Director and by this time was running a large branch and complex in Washington, D.C.

In 2013 Mike left Morgan Stanley with a dream for a different kind of financial services firm. After the financial crisis of 2008, managing a branch for a large firm had become less personalized and Mike had less and less time to coach and help the Financial Advisors and staff. After over a year of extensive research, interviews with people in the industry and painstaking planning Mike created Steward Partners Global Advisory in partnership with Raymond James. The idea of an independent financial services firm where all the employees are partners with equity ownership and where those partners were truly important to each other personally and professionally is summed up by the phrase Mike created to describe Steward: “A Culture of Caring.” The founding of Steward Partners changed the landscape of Financial Services forever, Mike was a true thought-leader in the industry.

Most recently and up until his passing, Mike was working as a consultant with his own firm, Downpatrick Loch Partners, LLC. Mike loved nothing more than helping others grow and improve their business. He was always available to give advice and encouragement to anyone who sought him out. Mike truly delighted in the success of others and had an extensive network of friends and colleagues thanks to his genuine desire to help others.

Mike spent many years coaching and assistant coaching youth basketball, helping to organize team events, raise money and participate in tournaments for his son Michael’s AAU team. In typical fashion, Mike was still in touch with players he coached even when they went on to college, giving assistance and advice when needed. When he wasn’t working, Mike liked to spend time with friends and family at the beach or fishing.

Michael is survived by his wife Christa and by his children, Grace and Michael; his sisters and brother, Susan Balderstone, Philip T. Maurer and his wife, Barbara and Sloane Thayer; his mother and father-in-law, Mike and Jean Sullivan; his brothers-in-law, Timothy Sullivan and his wife, Kim, Patrick Sullivan and his wife, Catie and Kevin Sullivan and his wife, Tricia, as well as many nieces and nephews, cousins and extended families on both sides who loved him dearly.

Mass of Christian Burial (limited capacity) will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2020 at St. John the Baptist R.C. Church, 1281 Yardville-Allentown Road, Allentown, NJ.
