I can't say enough good things about Dr Gottlieb. I met him thru the LA Men's Study arm of the Multicenter AIDS Cohort Study in 1984.

He is so much more than just a Dr "practicing medicine"! He is a very compassionate healer.

For almost 4 decades i have referred patients, friends, & family to him for his expertise & continually innovative care. I have always gotten great feedback & appreciation for the connection.

It is not hyperbole to say the world is a much much better place because of Dr Michael Gottlieb, is just a obvious fact. Just look at his CV.

Although I didn't have much of a choice in my primary care doctor due to my type of insurance, I was pleasantly surprised at my visit with Dr. Gottlieb today. This was one of the best doctor's visits I've experienced...ever. The staff is friendly and my appointment started right on time. It's a very inclusive space with a diverse staff and LGBTQ+ flags hanging - these are just always clear indicators of a great healthcare provider in my opinion. The nurses and Dr. Gottlieb seemed to care not only about my physical health but my mental health as well. It was a comfortable, warm experience and I'd recommend Dr. Gottlieb to anyone looking for a new doctor in the LA area.

Michael Gottlieb is a great guy, and has been a fantastic doctor in years past. However, two things cause me to give his practice a 2-star review: he's slowing down, and his office staff SUCKS.

He was once on top of his game, but he just doesn't seem as into it as he once did. I have a feeling he'll retire at some point in the near future. He doesn't seem at all concerned with the latest research, and he just seems to be bored most of the time. I've been seeing him for years, and the excitement that he used to have, along with the general good attitude, are just not there any more.

Additionally, the office staff is one of the worst on the planet. They just don't give a flying f*ck about their patients. Good luck, for example, ever getting them on the phone, even to do something as simple as schedule an appointment. They NEVER answer when you call, and then they get upset when you aren't waiting by the phone when they call back. You'll be playing phone tag for several days.

All in all, I'm no longer impressed with this practice, and am looking for a new doctor. The shiny has worn off over the years, and they just aren't that great any more.

My Company's Insurance assigned me to Dr. Gottlieb and I didn't mind as the office is less than 5 minutes from where I live!

I called to schedule an appointment and had to wait about 10 minutes to finally get someone on the phone.

I realized later that Dany and the other very nice gentleman are the only 2 running the front office! Dany was super professional and helped me make my first appointment. Dany, I still think you have a great voice, cold or no cold!!

Skip ahead to appointment day, I had an amazing experience. Who says that about annual physicals right?

I met Dany in person and he was patient with all of my questions and very helpful. **After my appointment, I left the office and came back in TWICE because I had more questions but both Dany and the other gentleman were never annoyed or disregarded my inquiries. Thank you guys for your patience and kindness.

Shout out to Judy who made the whole blood drawing experience painless. I have very small veins and other nurses in the past have to jab me 2-3 times to get it right! Judy- you are AWESOME!

NP Ann Easley was really nice and called me the next day with my Lab results. Thank you very much for the prompt results and excellent, professional service!!

I love this clinic and am glad they are my healthcare provider. I don't like the parking but heck, everything else made up for it!

Thank you Dany, your deskmate :), Judy, Ann.... xoxo!!!

      Updated review

Doctor G. has been my doctor for the past 30yrs. if it wasn't for his drive to keep people alive when there was no meds for HIV most of us would not be here today. Dr. Gottlieb is now my primary and although I live 300 miles away,I continue to drive to LA to see him. He handles all my care and my wife's care. I would not be here today to see my grandchildren grow up if it wasn't for Dr. Gottlieb. I never have to wait weeks for appointments and his staff is caring and quick to follow up. Never loose ends. yes sometimes there is a wait, but I always plan for the worst when driving into the city. I have been late more times than not. So if I have to wait once in a while,it's okay.

I was his patient for over 15 years, and so you can be assured, I am a credible feedback source. He is very nice and you can't help but to like him!!! Personality-wise... I GIVE HIM 5 STARS.

      But read on....

On one occasion he did lab work on me, and the lab results CLEARLY INDICATED that the hiv cocktail he had me taking was NOT working and my VIRAL LOAD WAS INCREASING.

Yet despite the fact that my labs indicated that I needed to have a geno test to see what I was resistant to, he "dropped the ball". Six months after taking said ineffective/potentially lethal hiv cocktail, it was my doctor at the Gay and Lesbian Community Center who caught this potentially deadly mistake.

I was mad as hell, but I kept my cool.

The next time I saw Gottlieb, I respectfully addressed my findings and concerns and proceeded to ask him why was he not on top of all of this. At first he was nice, but a few minutes later he felt attacked and became defensive and alluded that I sounded like someone who was getting ready to take legal action. I felt belittled and dismissed for advocating for my health. Who was I to question him?

Instead of being a stand-up guy, instead of apologizing and taking responsibility for putting me in harm's way, he made it all about him and the safety of his practice. My health and well-being were nowhere on his radar. Yep, this is the guy who swears up and down at every public gay forum he speaks at that he is a friend of the gay community.

I'm at the age where I rarely believe what anyone says, I let their actions speak volumes.

I saved all my labs, dates, notes, times, and conversations I had with my hiv doctor at the gay center, and I also saved said data with respect to my dealings with Gotlieb.

But never once did I intend to address my concerns with the Medical State entities that govern/address such matters, and/or to take legal action against him.

We all make mistakes. What ticked me off was his arrogance and lack of remorse. After all, this "mistake" could have compromised my life span.

I liked Gottlieb. But I lost confidence and respect for him from that point on.

But I let it go and I continued to see him up until recently for one reason and one reason alone, he wrote me prescriptions for certain things I needed that I could not get from my doctor at the center.

But as far as my labs, game plan and medicine regime, I NEVER AGAIN took Gottlieb's advice unless I first ran it through my HIV doctor at the center.

I only have one piece of advice, if you employ him as your physician, whatever he tells you, GET A SECOND OPINION!!! YOUR LIFE MAY DEPEND ON IT.

But if you are gay, go to the Gay & Lesbian Community Center in Hollywood. They saved me from a potentially deadly scenario. I owe them my life!

I too am shocked that Dr. Michael Gottlieb doesn't have dozens of reviews stating how he has changed peoples lives for the better. He is the finest doctor I have ever been too in my 55 years. His advice on my health has been tremendous. I would not be the healthy, vibrant man that I am today without his guidance and care. He is very personable and really listens to what you have to say. Besides being a brilliant physician, he posses good old fashioned common sense.
Thank you Dr. Gottlieb, you have changed my life!
